Texas tackle commits to Purdue | www.jconline.com | Journal and Courier

But the 6-foot-3, 260-pound defensive tackle from Houston's Klein Oak High School decided that he'd rather come to the state of Indiana and play for Purdue instead of suiting up for Rice, the hometown school.

"The main factor was that my parents aren't going to be able see as many games," said Davis, who verbally committed to the Boilermakers on Thursday. "But Purdue has a lot of televised games and they'll be able to make it up for some.

"I kind of felt like I wanted to go to more of a college town instead of downtown."

Davis, whose team is 10-1 and still alive in the Class 5A, Division II playoffs, also had offers from Western Michigan, Army and Tulane. Kansas State and Northwestern also were recruiting him.
