Holds just shy of 20 offers, but doesn't seem satisfied with his current list. Wants offers from USC and WVU, and thinks WVU is close to offering.

"I didn't think it was a big deal, the de-commitment," former Gopher verbal David Gilreath said. "I think this was the best decision of my life."

"(The University of Minnesota) didn't really compare," UW Kicker Taylor Mehlhaff said. "I loved the atmosphere here. It was pretty easy to cross (Minnesota) off the list. I wanted to play at the highest level possible but I also wanted to have that college atmosphere."

Florida DE A USC Target
By Phil Kornblut

USC is one of many offers for DE David Gilbert (6-4 215) of Oakland Park, FL, and it's a former Gamecock standout that has captured Gilbert's imagination. "They said I run like John Abraham," Gilbert said. "He's my favorite defensive player in the entire world. He's just so fast." Gilbert said he gets plenty of mail from USC recruiter Robert Gillespie, and he said he calls the Gamecock assistant on a regular basis. "I'm looking for where I can play early," Gilbert said. "I'll also be looking for the academics I want to study and how well I get along with the players." Gilbert has not visited any schools this summer nor has he been to any camps. He does not have any favorites. His other offers are Louisville, Pittsburgh, Florida International, Minnesota, Purdue, Iowa State, Vanderbilt, Connecticut, Central Florida, Kansas State, Wisconsin, Marshall, Indiana, Arkansas State and Florida Atlantic. He's also getting interest from Miami. In seven games last season, Gilbert 57 tackles with nine sacks and eight tackles for loss.

ESPN - Southeast Recruiting Blog

Defensive end David Gilbert (Oakland Park, Fla./Northeast) is down to a final three. The 6-foot-4, 215-pounder, who plans to graduate in December, hopes to visit Vanderbilt, Kentucky and Central Florida and then make a decision from there.

The Commodores, off to a 3-0 start this season, have impressed Gilbert.

"Vanderbilt is in because it's a private university and it's well-known as far as academics," Gilbert said. "If I get a degree from there, I will never be out of work. Plus, with them being in the SEC, that's a lot of exposure I can get and I will have a great chance to get to the NFL if I can."

He sees early playing time at Kentucky.

"They play good football and they are not afraid to play freshman," Gilbert said. "I have a good chance to develop coming in early for an SEC school that wanted me from the beginning."

An unofficial visit to Central Florida has the Golden Knights in the thick of things.

"I visited there unofficially and I fit in with the players," he said.

Gilbert added that he plans to make his official visits in October.

David Gilbert Close to Deciding | soflafootball.com

Says it's a close race if Florida offers this weekend, but he probably would still choose Wisconsin.
