LB Roderick Blunt (6-2 210) of Miramar, FL, the son of former Clemson running back Rodney Blunt, has been offered by USC and Purdue according to his coach Josh Shapiro. Clemson is among the other interested schools but has not yet offered. "He needs to improve in the classroom, so some schools are waiting on his grades," Shapiro said. "I think the only school he'd commit early to would be Clemson. I just think he feels comfortable there. His dad brings him up for a lot of events. Clemson is definitely going to wait on him." Recruiters from Clemson, Miami, Iowa, Central Michigan, Kansas State, Florida State, Miami, Central Florida, South Florida, Florida International, Auburn and Troy have been by the school. He's also drawing interest from Wisconsin and Florida. Last season Blunt totaled about 90 tackles with 10 sacks and three fumble recoveries.

Scouts from FIU, Jacksonville and a few other schools were there to come see the Gators' two biggest attractions -- linebackers Roderic Blunt (6-2, 210) and Devon Butler (5-11, 210). Both looked impressive during drills and practice, showing the type of closing speed and coverage skills colleges certainly want. Blunt, the son of former Clemson running back Rodney Blunt, already has offers from Clemson, South Carolina, Purdue and Wisconsin. Butler should have some of his own soon.

LB Roderick Blunt (6-2 215) of Miramar, FL who already has offers from USC, Purdue, and Wisconsin received additional offers from Mississippi State, UCF, and South Florida. His father, Rondey Blunt played RB at Clemson from 1989-93. Blunt says his son likes USC. "They were one of the first to offer him and they've recruited him hard. Just because I went to Clemson doesn't mean they've(Clemson) got him. They still need to recruit him." Blunt says he wants his son to go somewhere he feels comfortable and can graduate. "We want him to go to a school where he feels good. I'm not always going to be there for him so he needs to be somewhere he can grow up real fast." Roderick visited FSU for Junior Day this past school year and liked what he saw. "He enjoyed it. It's a good school, but really, they're all good schools." His dad is guiding Roderick's recuitment and just wants him to make a good decision. "The pigskin changed my life. I'm a Federal Agent now and love my job. I want him to take advantage of what football can offer him." Blunt runs a 4.5 40 and says his strength is playing sideline to sideline. USC is near the top of his list but he plans to take all five official visits before making a decision.

Blunt says he has offers from Clemson, Wisconsin, South Carolina, Auburn and Florida State among others.

He doesn't have a favorite right now.

''I am waiting to take my visits and see what's what before making any decision,'' Blunt said.

Coach Josh Shapiro is one of Blunt's biggest supporters and says his linebacker is as good as it gets in Broward.

''I don't care what anyone says, he's the best linebacker in Broward County,'' Shapiro said. ``When you come to our school and you watch us practice, you don't have to know who he is, but when you look on the field you'd be able to pick him out without knowing who he is.''

Blunt says he would like to get out of South Florida, which might make it hard for the University of Miami to have a chance at him.

Miami coach Tommie Robinson has been in contact with him, but the Canes have not pulled the trigger on an offer. It probably won't matter though according to Blunt.

''To be honest, I want to get out of here, and I'm trying to see some other stuff,'' Blunt said.

Although he is currently playing outside linebacker, Blunt projects as an inside or middle linebacker in college because of his size and quickness in shorts spaces. His ability to take on blocks is also excellent.

Roderick has the same offer list, but now Louisville, So. Florida, and C. Florida are also inquiring. Father is a Clemson alum but he won't push Roderick toward the Tigers. Roderick will wait until after his season to set up offers.

LB Roderick Blunt (6-2 210) of Miramar, FL has narrowed his list to five and says Clemson is his leader. His top five are Clemson, USC, Georgia, Auburn, and FSU. He has three offers right now but is expecting more. USC, Purdue, and Wisconsin are the schools with offers. Blunt's father Rodney was a runningback for the Tigers from 1989-93. Blunt likes the atmosphere at Clemson and would like to see USC up close. "I've been to Clemson many times so I know what to expect. I would like to see what it's like in (Columbia). It looks good on tv but I want to experience it," he says. He says that Coach Gillespie keeps in touch with his father because, "I really don't have time because I'm either playing football or studying." Blunt says that graduation rates are very important to his final decision. He plans to take official visits to each of his top five schools but will likely wait until after the season.
