The hardest thing for Pitt football players the past two years has not been the grueling practices, but rather the idle time between them.

The closest the Panthers have been to a bowl game under third-year coach Dave Wannstedt is through a television, which only makes their breaks between seasons seem harder and longer than usual. Ther 2007 season begins Monday with Media Day and practice begins Tuesday at the Panthers' South Side practice facility.

Their names resonated with Pitt football fans, as if mentioning Tyler Palko, H.B. Blades or Darrelle Revis were as synonymous as talking about the Panthers.

Now that those three are gone to the NFL, Pitt is approaching the 2007 season as a team without an identity or, at least, a readily identifiable player.
