Well, it makes coming to PSU a tad more attractive for a prospective QB.

I suppose you're right about Brown making it a tad more attractive -- I figure the QB can already see all the big uglies to protect him, Dukes to hand the rock to, and Kuntz, Thomas and Felder to catch it. Brown would sure be icing on the cake.

So claiming "We need him NOW" sounds rather desperate . . . perhaps it would be less so if "NOW" wasn't capitalized.

heh

Again, we are in good shape here. I'm hopeful he will commit during the season at the latest.

ESPN - Justin Brown Rankings, Grade, News, Stats - College Football Recruiting 2009

Quote:
ESPN 150 Watch List wide receiver Justin Brown currently has Penn State atop his list, affiliate Web site TheBigSpur.com reports.

Rutgers, Virginia, N.C. State and South Carolina appear to be the other programs in the mix for his signature.

Brown mentioned that a team's depth chart will factor into his decision, "I want to go to a school that does not have a lot of wide receivers. I want there to be around 5-6 wide receivers with some graduating as well."

Brown caught 19 passes for 556 yards (29.3 average) and eight touchdowns during his junior campaign.

If this kid goes anywhere else, the coaching staff at PSU lost him, not anyone else won him. It's just that simple. I look at the other schools in the mix for this kid and it would be embarrasing to lose him to any of those schools based on several factors - including depth chart.

Sometimes I wonder just where Brown gets this stuff. Even though PSU doesn't have a deep group of WRs, they still have more than 6 and I'd be surprised if anyone he's talked to including the Blue Hens only has 6 receivers on the roster. Though now that I think about it, looking ahead after this season then PSU will only have 5, so maybe this is an indirect way of saying he likes PSU.

I saw another quote somewhere where he was talking about how he's looking for a team that throws the long ball because he's a deep threat, as if he expects to play "bombs away" and average 30 yards per catch in college like he does in HS. I just checked the 100 top receivers last season, and just 3 averaged over 20 yards per catch with the kid from Duke being the only one from a BCS conference.

So I'm hoping Brown is just having some fun with the interviewers or just running his mouth without thinking. If not, someone like Steve Superior might pander to his delusions while PSU recruiters will likely try to give him more realistic expectations, and pandering could sway him.

For now, I try to overlook this stuff in light of his statement following his latest visit that PSU is making it hard for other schools to catch his interest. At least then he was making a direct statement about a school instead of some vague wish list.

What in the hell is ESPN affiliate theBigSpur.com? What school does that represent? ESPN is obviously pretty horrendous at times with their coverage/evaluation/grading & up-to-date recruiting info. I'm not sure N.C. State, Virginia, Rutgers and South Carolina are the other schools that "appear" to be in "contention" for Justin's services.

Interest can change from day-to-day, anything can spark a kids interest but we appear to be all over him. We have recruited many kids with ego's the size of Alaska but Justin isn't one of them. As far as his comments about WRs, I doubt he is talking about all the WRs a team has but rather how many FORMIDABLE WRs a team has. He doesn't want to sit behind 3 or 4 starters when he arrives on campus only to find out that there is another wave waiting to break out on the field.

We're in good shape having gotten AJ Price (A in first summer class, B+ in second which ends next Tuesday) in the '08 class and now 6'3-6'2.5 WR Brandon Felder for the '09 class. Curtis Drake (ATH-QB-WR), Christian Kuntz (ATH-WR-LB-S) & Derrick Thomas (ATH-WR-CB-S) I don't count because who knows where they will play. Justin will play from day 1 and Brandon Felder probably will as well if he can work it out and get enrolled early. So as far as legitimate WRs (in my eyes) we would have AJ Price, Justin Brown, Brandon Felder, Graham Zug, Brett Brackett & Derek Moye. I doubt Brett or Graham start in '09 unless we miss on Justin so the opportunity is there for the taking.

He has tons of offers, and I don't care what other schools he has genuine interest in I am just hoping we CLOSE THE DEAL!
