The Under Armour/Scout.com Combine made a stop in Pittsburgh, Pa., over the weekend and fittingly a Pittsburgh area prospect walked away with the MVP honors. Penn Hills middle linebacker Dan Mason beat out some stiff competition to win the award.

Am I the only one who thinks it is idiotic to name an MVP at a combine?

I don't mean to knock the kid at all -- I'd be thrilled if he ends up at PSU. But naming an MVP for an event where they don't actually play just seems excessive even in the hype machine that is the recruiting industry.

ESPN - Linebackers aplenty at Penn State Nike Camp - Insider

ILB Dan Mason (Pittsburgh/Penn Hills)
Mason is on the shorter side but packs a punch on a thick, strong frame. He's an explosive athlete capable of being an inside or outside guy. He may grow into a tackle-to-tackle run plugger with his body and strength.
