Farrell has a little mean streak in him and over the next two years he should develop into one of the regions top linemen.

Something about this supposed offer seems fishy to me -- usually when kids with such a thin list of offers get one from a big league school, they pounce on it before someone else takes that spot. And when the number of scholies is in short supply, I'm surprised that a less heralded recruit (a Pittsburgh kid who doesn't even have an offer from Pitt) would have the luxury of checking out other schools before making a decision.
So I'm wondering if his "offer" is to go to PSU as a preferred walk on.

It probably is.
However, Penn State has lost out on kids because they wanted to go to a school that would give them a better opportunity to play.
Either way, Farrell hopefully won't cost us a schollie.

"(The University of Minnesota) didn't really compare," UW Kicker Taylor Mehlhaff said. "I loved the atmosphere here. It was pretty easy to cross (Minnesota) off the list. I wanted to play at the highest level possible but I also wanted to have that college atmosphere."

Well, I was way off on guessing that offer was fishy. I hope the kid can pleasantly surprise everyone.

Shady Side's Farrell picks Penn State
Quote:
Shady Side Academy offensive lineman Mike Farrell has made a verbal commitment to Penn State.
Farrell, 6 feet 6, 280-pounds, is projected to play tackle for the Nittany Lions. He chose Penn State over Miami of Ohio.
"I liked everything I saw in both places, but what it came down to is that I liked Penn State just a little more," Farrell said. "I am definitely grateful for the opportunity. I am going to redshirt next year and definitely use the year to get bigger and stronger."
Farrell plans to sign with Penn State on Feb. 6, national letter of intent signing day.
