Rivals $
Dateline: Christmas Eve Day
Unofficial top 5 appears to be: PSU, Oregon, Michigan, UCLA, and Auburn. However, he's open to all the schools whom offered. Once again expresses intention to make an early decision after visits.

A while ago Forcier was quoted in an article as saying he was told he'd get an offer if PSU didn't get Pryor. Looks like the staff has no confidence that will happen.
Nice to see the staff showing him some love nice and early with this offer.

Yeah, thats what Jay told the kid. If we don't get our main '08 focus at QB [TP] then your our guy in '09, but if we do get him then your not getting a ship. Quite irresponsible if you ask me, even though Forcier said he "understands" if you have TP you don't need to have TF as well. That has got to be one of the dumbest pitches I have ever heard regardless.

Nice to see the irrational Jay hate is alive and well. Jay gives the kid an honest read on the situation, and you call it "irresponsible". And of course if Jay had lied to him or strung him along then you could bash him for that as well.
But since you're so smart, tell us how Jay should have handled it instead of giving it to Forcier straight.

Jay only needs to tell Forcier about Pryor if Forcier wants to commit early. That way he can avoid making a verbal commitment and having to switch it if Pryor comes to PSU.
Otherwise, there is no need to say anything to Forcier about Pryor. If the kid won't come here because of Pryor he'll make his own decision.

Uhhh....why on earth would you look one of the top QBs in the country for the '09 year in the eye and tell him if this '08 stud doesn't come here your getting a scholarship. Thats one of the dumbest things I've ever heard, and yes it is irresponsible. Completely irresponsible regarding the program, we haven't signed a QB in two classes and we have an ass like Jay trying to hedge his bets and bank on quite possibly only getting 1 QB throughout 4 classes - if Pryor or Manuel don't come. Thats ridiculous.
What is there for Jay to lie about? Or string the kid along? I had not realized all of our scholarships are spoken for, for the next two seasons; to the point where our pretend OC/QB coach has to act like it is a wait and see situation. It is not a wait and see situation, Forcier should be a top priority...we should be trying as hard as we can to lock the kid up for the '09 class - not telling him that his chances of being at Penn State depend on the decision making of an '08 recruit. But thats the position Jay puts Penn State in, for what reason I have no clue.

Rivals $
2/11
From BWI...staying at Scripps for his senior season. Maryland offered last week. Michigan State is supposed to decide soon on an offer. Will likely visit PSU, Northwestern and Wisconsin this spring. PSU and Oregon top his list of favorites.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that if Pryor ultimately goes to OSU (and I suspect he will), Forcier will commit to PSU by the end of April.
Just a hunch...

mike - I agree.
Here's the next question. Getting a little bit ahead of ourselves, we can assume that if Forcier commits that Newsome drops us. If that is the case, are we then forced to go to Plan B for a second QB or do we still have a shot at Savage?
I just don't think Savage sticks if Forcier come on board. Luckily, Craig Crawford has high interest and is open to playing any position, so he could be used at QB in a pinch.
Then again, all of this is for not if you know who decides to be a Nittany Lion.

Absolutelyagree with all of your thoughts here.
If Pryor goes to OSU and Forcier commits, I think PSU gets a lesser-known guy as backup. Newsome to VT or some other destination south of the Mason-Dixon line.
I think Savage has enough cred to be able to go to a school as their number one target; not as PSU's alternate.
And if Pryor, by some miracle, does come to PSU, there will be much rejoicing...

I haven't seen anything to indicate that Savage has any interest at all in PSU, except maybe for being Wedderburn's teammate. So I'll just be interested to see if the staff can land Forcier . . .or that kid from Jeannette for this class.

First - Savage won't be a Lion regardless
Second - PSU REALLY needs to offer Crawford. That kid doesn't seem to be the type of kid that would be fazed if Forcier/Newsome were to verbal to PSU and cross off the list. Any combo of Forcier/Crawford or Newsome/Crawford is doable. Crawford isn't necessarily a "lesser known" backup type.
PS - me thinks PSU has a better chance getting Forcier than Newsome; however Newsome isn't VPI's top QB target for this year and they are VERY VERY limited with scholarships.
