'11 NJ OL Angelo Mangiro
Scout.com: Angelo Mangiro Profile
Angelo Mangiro - Yahoo! Sports
Offensive guard
Succasunna (NJ) Roxbury

Squat max: 440 pounds
Class: 2011 (High School)

Quote:
Mangiro, a 6-foot-5, 290-pound man-child, has been starting on both sides of the ball for the Gaels for the last two years. He's been getting letters and brochures from all the major colleges even before he enrolled at Roxbury and is already the apple of every recruiter's eye, even though he's just entering his junior year.
"A lot of coaches already invited me out to their season openers," said Mangiro, whose older brothers Vinnie and Santino were products of the Roxbury football program as well. "I told them that I might if I could work it into my schedule. Right now, Roxbury football comes first."
Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano is already drooling at the prospects of landing the prospect Mangiro. Boston College, UCLA, Ohio State, Notre Dame and North Carolina State have already come calling.

Scout.com: Mangiro Talks Recruiting
10/14/09
By Bob Lichtenfels. Angelo currently has offers from RU, BC, Maryland, NC State, and UNC. Schools showing interest include PSU, ND, Miami (FL), UF, FSU, and USF. Likes ND's pro-style offense...campus stood out on his visit. RU isn't far from home and coach Greg Schiano is a nice guy....talks about two NJ products that stayed home....likes what RU teaches but he'd like to see them win more against bigger programs. PSU was first school to contact coaches when he was a freshman...has spoken with coach Dick Anderson and is excited about PSU's interest....PSU has tons of tradition....will visit for the PSU-Indiana game. Definitely visiting BC...has a high school coach that loved BC. Will take a big tour this spring and summer, so he'll visit many schools...mentions and talks about UNC, NC State, and Maryland also.

Kid looks like a stud.
Could be another ND/PSU battle for a NJ prospect.

Hopefully, USC pounds the crap out of ND tomorrow. Slow the ND hype train to a crawl.

BC is very much involved in this one,as well as a ton of top NJ guys next year. They are hitting NJ and NE hard for 2011 and so far things are going very well.

How can I say this without sounding like an arrogant prick...
I like our chances vs. BC for anyone.
Best I can do. Sorry.

Well then you are way too confident. BC has always been a force in NJ,and they are getting even more because from what we have found out a lot of former BC players are now coaches in NJ. Spaz is a very good recruiter, and I think you need to think of BC as more of a threat because you guys tried to get Jim Noel, and that failed. I'm assuming that you guys offered Josh Haden, and if you did guess what happened you lost. We are in very good shape for our top 2011 targets, and BC is probably in better shape with Mangiro than PSU right now. As well as a couple of other guys including NY ATH Q. Gause. I don't know what your problem with BC is,but you are really wrong on this one.

Well, BC has had some success against PSU for Jersey kids -- Brian Toal and Dorian Bryant come to mind, and though I don't think PSU recruited Shakim Phillips BC was able to beat the local school and others for him too.
I give BC a lot of credit because it's one school where PSU isn't going to win by arguing graduation rates, and while I wish them good luck with recruiting they sure didn't have much luck against PSU this year.
Oh, and I don't recall hearing about PSU recruiting Josh Haden - congrats on getting him anyway. I think PSU preferred Michael Shaw who committed until he drank a big bottle of snake oil on LOI day.

I have a lot of respect for PSU,and their fanbase has been great in the discussions I've had with you guys, but this guy is way off base on this one. There are 2 guys in MA next year that I could see getting PSU offers and both are leans one who could be a top 100 prospect being a very heavy lean, and PSU would stand absolutely 0% chance. The following I think we would be beat you for as well:
CT OL Tommy Jordan
Conor Hanratty is a BC/ND battle no doubt
Brian Mihalik is a legacy, and is probably a BC lean
BC in 2011 will probably beat PSU a couple of times no doubt. 42 is just over confident, and obviously has something against BC.

I have nothing against BC, but its fans (present company included) overestimate their recruiting prowess, especially when competing with PSU.
As stated, we did not offer Haden. We did pursue Noel, but late in the game. IIRC, he did open up his recruitment at one point, right?
The current discussion has been about Floyd, who has essenitally eliminated BC from contention. This despite the fact that it seemed he loved BC and was in love with his position coach at BC, yada yada yada. I said something then and was rebuffed. Who was overconfident there?
If you go back over the last 5 years alone, you will find plenty of instances of kids who chose PSU over BC as well. In fact, I remember some BC fans thinking they had a shot at Silas Redd, which was pretty f-ing hillarious/sad.
IMO, BC is a mid-level program that offers excellent academics and quality football. They cannot, however, consistently compete with Penn State in recruiting elite talent. My beef is with those who cannot see this.

Noel never really reopened it,but he considered it,I was never worried about him though. Floyd I was confident, but if you remember I said even then that I thought he was PSU. I was never confident with Redd,it was obvious from the beginning where he was going. What I find funny is that BC is a mid-level program. BC has been one of the better, and probably the 2nd best team in the ACC since joining, and recruiting has gotten better. BC has just in the last decade or so started to become a bigger program. We had the good years with Flutie, but until TOB there was nothing. I think that with all the guys we have been putting in the NFL recruiting will get even better. What you don't seem to understand is that BC has a lot of connections in NJ and is working at getting our connections in OH back as well. In NJ we get who we want at Bosco unless we come in too late like we did with Bryan Murphy and James Kittredge this year although I don't think these are over. There are atleast 2 other schools that have former BC players or alums as coaches, and that defenitely helps. Whether you believe it or not I honestly don't care, but BC will be right there with you guys next year especially in NJ and we won't get them all,but we will be toe to toe with PSU and maybe get more. BC could have a very very good 2011 class.

Isn't BC considering leaving the ACC?
I'll concede your point about having the 2nd best record, but the timing of the move coincided with a down period for both FSU and UM, both of whom have more prominent programs in CFB today (as long as Bobby doesn't sink the ship).
IMO - VT, FSU and UM are the premier programs in the ACC.
Tier 2 - Clemson, Georgia Tech, UNC (moving up under Davis), BC
Tier 3 - NC State, Wake, Maryland, Virginia (moving down)
Tier 4 - Duke (but might move up)

True enough.
What BC does (along with VT) is get the most out of the talent they recruit. That's why they've won so many games over the last few years unlike a Clemson.
