Penn State '10 PA RB/LB Mike Hull (Penn State Verbal)

Mike Hull

FYI, the bleached hair is a result of qualifying for the state tournament in wrestling. This is a tradition at Canon Mac that extends to all age groups. If the student wins the state championship, the father has to bleach his hair as well.

Scout Profile

Canon McMillan HS
Canonsburg, PA

Ht: 6-1
Wt: 200
40: N/A

IMO Hull, a sophmore, was the most impressive player on the field last Friday night in a game that included senior D1 prospects Andrew Sweat, Mike Yancich, Brandon Weaver (OU recruit), Jeravin Matthews (NW verbal), and Zane Zebraskey (Akron, Kent St. recruit). Looks like this one will be Penn State's to lose, but colleges from all across the country will be in Canonsburg to see Hull play.

WASHINGTON SUNDAY: Big Macs sophomore wants more
Quote:
Hull, a sophomore linebacker and running back at Canon-McMillan, already seems well on his way to playing football in college. He was a first-team All-Great Southern Conference selection as a freshman, no small feat considering state champion Upper St. Clair and powerful McKeesport were in the conference, and that his team went winless in five conference games.
Canon-McMillan topples Trinity - Pittsburgh Tribune-Review
Quote:
Michael Hull ran 17 times for 177 yards and a pair of touchdowns, as Class AAAA Canon-McMillan knocked off No. 2 Class AAA Trinity, which features three Division I recruits at linebacker.

Quote:
Put down Mike Hull as one to watch. Only a sophomore, he rushed for 177 yards on 17 carries against Trinity. A year ago, Hull made all-conference as a freshman. His father is a former Penn State player.

...there is no way there is a better sophomore in the WPIAL than Mike Hull. He's the area's next superstar...

Without regard to recruiting services, scouting combines or other publications, it's time to unveil the top 10 high school football players in 2007 from the Washington-Greene region:1. Andrew Sweat, Sr., Trinity, LB/FB -The best defensive player I've seen in my 10 years of covering high school football. 2. Mike Yancich, Sr., Trinity, LB/RB - A freakish, one-of-a-kind athlete. No wonder Trinity coach Ed Dalton calls him "Tarzan." 3. Mike Hull, So., Canon-McMillan, LB/RB - The next great linebacker in Washington County. Insiders say he's a lock to play at Penn State.

I live in PA, this kid is definitely special. And not only that, but he has a blue collar work ethic and is the type of kid any coach would want on his team. I think this kid will be very hard to sway from Penn State, regardless of whether Joe is still at Penn State or not... [I know thats what people are thinking, since Mike is only a sophomore]

Canon-McMillan (2-1, 0-0) at Shaler (3-0, 0-0), 7:30 p.m. today -- Canon-McMillan's Mike Hull is one of the WPIAL's leading rushers as a sophomore. But Shaler is on the cusp of being ranked in the top five in Class AAAA and also trying to go 4-0 for the first time since 2000. Winner: Shaler.

WPIAL Class AAAA Roundup: Plum wins first in conference, makes playoffs

Quote:
McKeesport 30, Canon-McMillan 28

Brian Cope's 24-yard field goal with five seconds left gave the visiting Tigers (8-1, 5-0) a Great Southern win. J.J. Eckels' 47-yard pass to Shadrae King set up that score for McKeesport, No. 4 in the WPIAL. Mike Hull scored twice for the Big Macs (4-5, 2-3).

Mike Hull, a 6-foot-1, 208-pound sophomore, kept the Big Macs' offense moving, finishing with 184 rushing yards on 24 carries....Hull, who scored both of their touchdowns in the third quarter on runs of 7 and 34 yards despite suffering a bruised thigh in the second half.
Hull also broke the Canon Mac single season rushing record last night. Prior to last night it had stood for 41 years.

Class of 2010 prospect Mike Hull (Canonsburg/Pa./Canon McMillan) is going to be a very good player. I’d go as far as saying I can see a Sean Lee (Penn State) type player. He is a hardnosed kid who gets after it.

Well at least we have something to look forward to in next year's recruiting class - an almost given lock to PSU.

Canon-McMillan FB Hull welcomes contact - Pittsburgh Tribune-Review

Quote:
Canon-McMillan fullback/linebacker Mike Hull isn't hard to find after a bruising Quad-A game. Just look for a walking pile of ice bags.

"There's ice everywhere," he said. "I walk out of the locker room with ice taped all down my arms and legs with elastic bandages and plastic wrap. My whole body is iced."

Due to the high-impact nature of both positions, the 6-foot-1, 215-pound Hull can collide with opponents up to 40 times a game.

"After a game, I'm pretty beat up," he said. "My hands are swollen and my legs are beat, so I try to rest over the weekend. You get over it. You have fun."

Another reason Hull runs into so much traffic is that he's good at both jobs. He made 109 tackles as an inside linebacker two seasons ago and 117 as an outside linebacker and safety last season.

After earning Quad South first-team honors as a freshman linebacker, Hull joined the first team again last season as a sophomore running back. He led all WPIAL Quad-A rushers last season with 1,300 yards and added 14 touchdowns.
