By Sean Fitz. NC State has offered, joining Pitt....Kevin has taken unofficial visits to PSU, Pitt, Michigan and would definitely like to get out to NC State this summer. Talks extensively about his numerous visits to PSU, camping at UM, and visiting Pitt for the ND game.....academics will be Kevin's number one priority and he talks about not being sold on PSU just because his father played at PSU or because he grew up in a PSU household.

I've got a feeling that he's just covering his butt in case PSU doesn't offer

Pretty much.
You gotta think if he's any good, he gets one, though.

Recruiting Roundup: Baptism by fire -
Quote:
Penn State target Kevin Reihner said his introduction to football was a "baptism by fire."
In seventh grade, the junior offensive tackle practiced with Kingston (Pa.) Wyoming Seminary — a high school. One senior was 20 years old. He was 13.
"You can tell it like a horror story, but I really wouldn't change it," said the prospect out of Scranton (Pa.) Prep. "I didn't develop any bad habits."
Reihner played one year of organized football when he was 7. He had to wait until seventh grade to pick the sport up again because he couldn't participate in the local Midget leagues, which have weight restrictions.
In eighth grade, Reihner said Wyoming Seminary was flirting with placing him on the varsity high school squad. If it wouldn't have caused eligibility issues later in his career, he would have considered making the move.
"The first day, they treated me like a seventh-grader and kind of kept me away, but I worked my way up," said the 6-foot-3, 275-pound Reihner. "I hated watching practice more than getting beat in practice. And every day, they would get mad when I would get the best of them, and they would try to put me in my place.
"But it was really fun. I keep in touch with a lot of those guys."

Considering some of the crap we have taken in the past, yes, I agree. I think the only legacies that didn't get an offer were the Pankey twins.

Scout.com: Pa. OL discusses Rutgers, other offers
2/19/10
By Brian Dohn. Kevin talks about RU and was told he'd receive an offer.....Pitt is his top and he knows the most about the coaches there and likes them. He is also hearing from PSU, Michigan, UVa, Stanford, Duke, MSU, and Illinois....discusses his future on the field and in the classroom, potential future visits, and when he may commit as a possible early enrollee.

Reihner's film isn't bad, although he certainly isn't a can't-miss prospect.
I wonder if the delay in offering Mangiro is because the staff isn't sure if they want KR or AM...?

NN Recruiting Board: Offensive Line - (FREE)
2/26/10
Quote:
By Josh Moyer, NN Staff Writer
jmoyer@nittanynetwork.com
Feb. 26, 2010
Penn State's next class of offensive linemen has a chance to be something special, and the Nittany Lions have already taken the first steps to ensuring that.
The Class of 2011 will likely be defined by offensive linemen and defensive backs — and Penn State has already extended offers to their top four offensive linemen. More offers are almost certainly on the way.
Nos. 5 through 10 all have the potential for a future Penn State offer, and some of the players waiting in the wings could also be in the mix.
There's still plenty of time left in the recruiting process, but here's how Penn State's board is shaping up so far:
|
Quote:
9. Kevin Reihner, OG, Scranton (Pa.) Scranton Prep
Height, weight: 6-foot-3, 275 pounds
Interest in Penn State: High
Other main schools in the mix: North Carolina State, Pitt, Rutgers, Syracuse, Michigan, Connecticut
Penn State is one of three schools recruiting the junior heavily; the other two are Pitt and North Carolina State.
Reihner's father, George, used to play under Joe Paterno. And, Reihner said, he already trusts assistant coach Dick Anderson, who doesn't come across as a "used-car salesman" like some other coaches.
The other good news is he wants to stay close to home. The bad news is that Pitt isn't very far away either ... and he seems to be leaning more toward the Panthers.
Reihner, who's already taking college classes in Calculus II, wants to work in the medical field — and he's very attracted to the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
If the Lions offer, this could very well turn into a two-horse race for Reihner's services, but Pitt definitely holds the edge at this point.
