Detroit LB expects PSU offer -

Sept. 2, 2009

Detroit (Mich.) Renaissance linebacker Lawrence Thomas is one of the top five juniors in the state of Michigan. Thomas started at both middle linebacker and tight end during his sophomore season. He made 77 tackles and had five sacks.

The 6-foot-4 and 235-pound Thomas, who runs the 40-yard dash in 4.6 seconds, takes on blockers and stays on his feet well. He bench presses 250 pounds.

Thomas has a verbal scholarship offer from Michigan State. He is looking forward to receiving a number of others - including one from the Nittany Lions.

“UCLA said they are going to offer,” Thomas said. “Alabama, Colorado and Penn State are supposed to offer.”

Kurelic’s Comment: Thomas is certainly someone to keep an eye on in regards to a Penn State scholarship offer. I don’t think it necessarily comes this week, but it could come at some point. If it does, Penn State might be at the top of Thomas’ list.

By Josh Helmholdt. Renaissance coach Antoine Edwards reports that Lawrence received offers from Michigan State, Colorado, and Alabama via fax. UCLA has said their written offer is on the way....Michigan said their trying to get the written offer sent out...Antoine says he missed a call from PSU LB coach Ron Vanderlinden....Ohio State wants Lawrence to attend the USC game and Antoine says they could do something there (offer). Only visits scheduled are Michigan State this weekend, and to Michigan for the Notre Dame game.

By Allen Trieu. Has offers from MSU, Alabama, Colorado, Syracuse, and Vanderbilt...Renaissance assistant coach Antoine Edwards says Lawrence gave the team 100 yards rushing in the latest game when put in at running back. Attended the Michigan-ND game this past weekend, and despite having not yet offered, Michigan said he is one of their top priorities. Only planned visit is Michigan-MSU...USC, Ohio State, and Florida keep inviting to games but nothing planned....might go to Tennessee for a game.

Fair enough. MSU's going to try to have to lose this kid. One place he won't be going? Michigan. It'll be a while before UM sees another Renaissance kid on the roster.

By Josh Helmholdt. Lawrence talks about Michigan offering....article claims Lawrence has offers from Alabama, Colorado, MSU, Oklahoma, PSU, and UCLA. Has visited both MSU and UM in-state and plans to do so again....talks about Michigan meaning a lot as he grew up with all their success, and his previous visit to UM for the Eastern Michigan game. Focused on his season, not recruiting, and will decide some time next year.

Lawrence Thomas could be next in the long line of playmakers at Linebacker U - ESPN

NittanyNetwork.com

Detroit (Mich.) Renaissance linebacker Lawrence Thomas is one of the top junior linebackers in the Big Ten region, and Penn State is one of the schools in the running for his services.

The ESPNU 150 Watch List prospect's junior season came to a conclusion last weekend as Renaissance finished with a 4-3 record. In those seven games Thomas made 89 tackles including 16 sacks. He had a whopping 26 tackles for loss and intercepted two passes. Thomas started at both middle linebacker and tight end during his sophomore season. He made 77 tackles and had five sacks.

The 6-foot-4 and 235-pound Thomas, who runs the 40-yard dash in 4.6 seconds, has seen his scholarship offer list steadily rise since the beginning of September.

"I have at least eight or nine offers," Thomas said. "Michigan State, Michigan, Alabama, UCLA, Oklahoma, Florida, Wisconsin, Syracuse, Vanderbilt and Colorado, they all sent papers. And Penn State gave me a verbal offer."

Thomas has visited Michigan State and Michigan, attending games at both schools.

"I like all the schools," Thomas said. "They are all great. Right now I'm just trying to get more information and more offers."

When asked about the Nittany Lions, Thomas said, "Me and my dad are thinking about going to Penn State at Christmas break. The linebackers coach (Ron Vanderlinden) came to our school. He said they are losing a lot of linebackers. He wants me to go out there and see Penn State."
