Greyshirt

Could someone clear up the definition of greyshirt for me. I read on NittanyLounge.com this morning that if Levi Norwood greyshirted he would enroll in January 2011 at Penn State. Is that true?

I've always thought a grey shirt meant enrolling in Jan, but I'm not sure -- maybe a kid could enroll in Sept but just pay his own way the first semester if he didn't want to sit around waiting.

A grayshirt enrolls in January instead of July/August. They do not count towards the 25 limit for the class in which they entered, but will instead count towards the next years class.

Scout.com: Next Norwood is Emerging
6/26
By Stephen Greecher. Talks about missing football for a year and being able to focus on basketball, Levi was a starting G on the Midway BBall team that reached the regional semifinals. Thinks the move to Texas will help get his name out there as Texas is best known for football. Has caught the interest of PSU, Air Force, Texas A&M, Kansas State, and Baylor for football...as well as both Wichita State and Fordham for basketball. Levi says Jordan's time at PSU will definitely be a factor.

Scout.com: Something to Prove
7/1
By Mark Brennan. Began working out with the Midway football team last spring...now running and lifting with his teammates every morning and doing 7-on-7 drills each Thursday night. Levi said he wasn't as interested in any other school as he was PSU, and knew he wanted to go to PSU. PSU QB commit Paul Jones said Levi is a legit beast, very quick, has very nice hands and ran very crisp routes at the PSU senior camp. PSU WR commit Adrian Coxson couldn't gauge Levi's speed but said he catches the ball very well and runs good routes. Levi said he caught the ball well and did better at camp than he thought he would since he didn't play football last year...just has to prove to people he belongs at PSU, go out and show it.

9th-ranked Midway overpowers Alvarado, 27-7
Quote:
While Midway’s defense almost completely shut down the Indians in the first half, the Panthers found enough offense to gain control by halftime.
Smith, making his first varsity start, connected with senior receiver Levi Norwood on a bubble screen to the right side that Norwood turned into a 14-yard touchdown with a nifty cut in the middle of the field.

By Sean Fitz. Levi talks about his first high school football game since leaving State College as a sophomore...had 4 catches for about 70 yards with one touchdown and a punt return for a touchdown that was called back. Talks about his contact with PSU coaches and other PSU commits...says that he'll be visiting PSU for the Iowa game. Levi touches on his enrollment and whether grayshirting is probable.

Midway pushes by Crowley, 27-20
3 receptions for 31 yards and a TD against Crowley:
Quote:
The Panthers got near the Crowley goal line on a spectacular individual effort from Levi Norwood.
On third-and-4 at the Eagle 19, Norwood caught a pass from Ryan Smith on a wide receiver screen, broke a tackle and found room in the middle of the field before dragging defenders all the way to the 2-yard line to set up Martinez’s plunge.

Too bad for Levi, his team lost after a bye this past week....
