'11 PA TE Ben Koyack (Verbal Offer)
Rivals Profile
Scout Profile
Oil City (PA) Oil City Senior
Height: 6-foot-5
Weight: 220 lbs
Bill Kurelic: It's no surprise that the region's top linebackers were the showstoppers at Penn State - ESPN

Tight end Ben Koyack (Oil City, Pa.) was among four very talented Class of 2011 prospects who stood out. Koyack looks even bigger than his listed size of 6-foot-5 and 228 pounds. He does not have great speed, but he looked fast enough in drills and showed the ability to catch the ball with a defender draped all over him. Koyack will be one of the country's top tight ends in 2011.

Already has offers from the likes of Penn State, Pitt, Florida, West Virginia, Virginia Tech, Wisconsin, Boston College, Maryland and North Carolina State...has visited OSU and considers them one of his top choices along with PSU, Pitt and WVU.

I've been hearing about this kid for the better part of 2 years...there were a few blurbs way back about him at PSU camps or PSU Nike but I can't remember what was really said. Also know someone that is pretty high on the kid after having seen him play numerous times. Should be a good battle for his services, eventually...

He is from my hometown. Have heard he is better than Byham at this stage of his career. Time will tell, but if PSU wants him, I think it has the upper leg over ASWP on this.

Bill Kurelic: Overheard in Happy Valley - ESPN
Quote:
Will Tressel steal another?
Ohio State head coach Jim Tressel has had great success recruiting the state of Pennsylvania in recent years. Tressel has signed multiple top prospects from the Keystone State in each of the last two years, including Terrelle Pryor.
Tressel may do it again next season as sophomore tight end Ben Koyack (Oil City, Pa.) is high on the Buckeyes. The 6-5, 228-pounder already has over a dozen scholarship offers including Penn State, Pitt, Florida, West Virginia, Virginia Tech, Wisconsin, Boston College, Maryland and North Carolina State.
At the conclusion of the camp on Saturday, Koyack said his top four choices are Penn State, Pitt, Ohio State and West Virginia. Koyack recently visited OSU and a Buckeyes offer may not be far off. The buzz from Koyack and those with him on Saturday was that an Ohio State offer would put the Buckeyes at the top of the star tight end's list.

Know what bothers me about the truth of that statement... I thought Quarless was opening the book back up when he was shot out of his cannon. Back to Brady days. Hoping that Andrew can keep his head on straight and become a quality target while we look to replace the 3 WRs who have left us. Then you won't be so correct.

joey; he was referring to tOSU, because tOSU can never seem to find the TE in their offense....ever.

True, neither can WVU, or recently Pitt. Byham's numbers are simply outstanding for the supposed top ranked TE in the country out of Franklin, PA. My a** he was.

Proving the same lesson as always... I'm an idiot. Been the longest 2 days of any workweek I've had in over 1 1/2 years in this position. <-- that's my lousy excuse. Thanks fellas.

Tight end Ben Koyack from Oil City, Pa., is one of the top sophomores in Big Ten country. The 6-foot-5 and 228-pound Koyack attended the NIKE Football Training Camp at Penn State on Saturday and turned in an impressive performance.
Koyack is every bit of his listed size, runs good routes and made some outstanding catches in traffic. Koyack also showed he has very good blocking skills.
Koyack, who caught 48 passes and scored 10 times during his sophomore season, already has over a dozen scholarship offers including Penn State, Pitt, Florida, Wisconsin, West Virginia, Boston College, Maryland, Virginia Tech, North Carolina State and Akron.
“I like Ohio State, Penn State, West Virginia and Pitt,” Koyack said at the conclusion of the Nike Camp. “Those are my favorites.”

So...he's going to be here tomorrow?
Maybe this is why we're only recruiting one TE in this class?

Maybe the PSU offense will use the TEs more in the offense to entice him -- out of curiosity I've looked up some TE receptions in 2008 as benchmarks and calculated the % of receptions out of the total:
PSU: Quarless/Shuler -- 20 . . . 9%
tOSU: Nichol/Ballard -- 11 . . . 7%
Badgers: Graham/Beckum -- 63 . . . 35%
Interesting that Quarless had as many receptions as both tOSU TEs combined . . . and Graham had double that of PSU's TEs combined

Interesting stats. IMO, they reflect the nature of the offensive scheme.
OSU used to utilize their TEs more frequently under Cooper. They had a couple end up in the NFL during the 90s (Rickey Dudley immediately comes to mind).
