I wouldn't hold your breath on that.
Unless we start whiffing on the guys at the top of the list, we won't push for Kolb.

I don't know, I think a lot of our "depth" from OL on the roster has turned out to be illusory. They are struggling to find two starting guards, and there has been talk of Wis moving back to one of those spots. Besides Stank and Shrive....I've heard of a lot of disappointment with most of the rest of them.
We've also had some ships open up recently.

And speaking of disappointing OL and ships opening up...
"Joining the Penguins will be redshirt freshman offensive tackle Andrew Radakovich of Steubenville, the younger brother of former YSU basketball and football standout Brian Radakovich. He’ll be joined by sophomore free safety Sir Demarco Bledsoe of Piedmont, Okla.
Radakovich (6-foot-5, 296 pounds) comes to the Penguins after spending his freshman year as a redshirt at Penn State"

I think a lot of the depth just happens to be young -- that means they might need a bit more time to develop, not that they're duds.
And I never believed Radakovich had a scholie, so I doubt he's not opening one up now.

That's scary because if you have trouble on the line, you've got trouble everywhere. If PSU is thinking of burning one of their precious remaining schollies on a NR guy who is a 1* on scout, maybe they are in panic mode? That said, I read John Urschel looks to be a pleasant surprise and he had a more modest offer list than Kolb. I hope it's true cuz it sounds like PSU really needs some people to step up.

Hayride - Kolb's Scout profile is pathetic. His Rivals profile is much more up-to-date. Here are the offers listed there:
UConn
UNC
PSU
Virginia
VTech
Syracuse
NC State
Illinois
Maryland
His is rated as a 3-star OT on Rivals, and his offers lists supports that ranking.
I'm also not terribly concerned about our OL depth moving forward. In Dieffenbach, Graham and Ricketts we have three players who can play multiple positions.
As for 2009 and 2010, we will need players like Quinn Barham, Matt Stankiewitch, James Terry, Nerraw McCormack and Eric Shrive to provide quality depth. As long as we can establish a solid 7 or 8-man rotation at all five spots, we'll be okay.

Kolb is also coming off a serious knee injury, which I think has held back his offers (much like Royster's knee injury during his jr. year kept his offers and rankings less than they should have been). This kid is a diamond in the rough, imo.

I will agree that Kolb is a solid OL prospect.
If we continue to have some attrition, we may have room...or if Urschel or Cadogan ends up on defense. As of right now, we have 10 OL in the last two classes. That is very adequate, especially when we have bigger needs at DE and CB.

By Sean Fitz. Khamrone talks about his return from the knee injury and says contact is still about two weeks away...thinks that he has his list down to PSU, Virginia, and Connecticut. Khamrone says he will definitely make a PSU home game but isn't sure which one....should also be visiting Virginia, just got the invite, but has yet to set up the visit.

Kolb down to three -
8/24
Quote:
By Bill Kurelic, NN Recruiting Analyst
bkurelic@nittanynetwork.com
August 24, 2009
In early August, offensive lineman Khamrone Kolb from Burke (Va.) Lake Braddock said he cut his list of 10 scholarship offers down to five: Penn State, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Connecticut and North Carolina.
Less than three weeks later, Kolb has again narrowed his choices.
“It is pretty much down to three schools,” Kolb said on Sunday evening. “It will be Penn State, Connecticut or Virginia.”
Kolb is torn between the three at this point.

Kurelic’s Comment: I think Kolb ends up at Penn State or Virginia, but which way he goes is impossible to predict at this point.

By Jamie Oakes. Khamrone was fully cleared to participate this past Friday...estimates he got about 25-30 plays. He says it stood out that coaches from UVA were the first to see him as well as the first to call on September 1st, but says both PSU and UConn also called September 1st and suspects they'll be stopping by soon. Still focused on the same three schools but says Wisconsin has been showing interest and if they offered they would join his top three schools....also interested in UNC but says right now it is still those three schools.

Kolb to visit this weekend -
Taking an unofficial to PSU, and an official to watch the PSU-OSU game. A lot of kids will be at that game, here's hoping our team shows them exactly what a great offense and defense looks like in person.

He's ours if we want him, and given the news that we could have 20+ scholarships available, it appears that we do, in fact, want Kolb in this class.
