We have been down this road twice before and it ended in disaster. Maybe the third time is a charm, but I'm not seeing it work out any better.

Byrnes WR Nick Jones (5-10 165) recently picked up an offer from Georgia Southern. He also has an offer from Northern Illinois and indications of future offers from USC and Penn State. "USC said if I come to camp they most likely will offer," Jones said. "And Penn State is waiting for me to show up there this summer and they will probably offer. I'm definitely going to USC for camp and probably to Penn State." Jones said he's also looking at Florida and Florida State for camps. USC and Penn State are his favorites. USC recruiter Brad Lawing was by his school last week. A Florida recruiter was in Tuesday and recruiters from Alabama and NC State visited Wednesday. Jones said he's also hearing from Clemson, Georgia Tech, Duke and Auburn.

We have been down this road before ... offering the best friend of a stud to try to entice stud to come. Looks like others could be following suit.

Byrnes duo headed to State College -

6/3

Duncan (S.C.) Byrnes running back and ESPNU 150 Watch List prospect Marcus Lattimore pared his list of over two dozen scholarship offers to eight schools several days ago and Penn State made the cut.

The star back plans to visit Penn State in late June. When Lattimore arrives in State College, he won’t be alone.

Though the Nittany Lions have not offered a scholarship to Lattimore’s teammate, Nick Jones, they are interested and Jones will visit Penn State with Lattimore.

CONTINUED.....

Jones talks with USC Sunday > Palmetto Sports Recruiting News

Quote:
Jones talks with USC Sunday

By Phil Kornblut
WR Nick Jones (5-10 165) of Byrnes talked with USC receivers coach Steve Spurrier Jr. Sunday. "He wants me to come down there real bad and tour the facilities and hang out with the players," Jones said. "He really wants me to be a Gamecock. I'm high on South Carolina right now."

Jones has offers from USC, Michigan, Georgia Southern and Northern Illinois.

He's also getting interest from Penn State, Auburn and North Carolina. Jones said Michigan, North Carolina and Penn State are the others on his favorites list right now. Jones hasn't been anywhere this summer but he will visit Penn State June 27th with teammate Marcus Lattimore. He has no other visits planned right now.

Scout.com: Starting to Blow Up?

7/21

By Allen Wallace. Still claiming scholarship offers from South Carolina, Michigan, Georgia Southern, and North Illinois...hearing a lot from PSU, Auburn, and North Carolina...thinks PSU is real close to offering and that it will happen when he visits this month. Talks about USC, WVU, and Michigan...might wait and see who offers then decide in December.

Hopefully, 0%.

In reality, chances are likely higher.

I don't think a school offering his buddy is going to weigh into Marcus' decision at all. I seriously doubt PSU is going to land Lattimore anyway and they don't have the schollies to throw around this year so this is a curious move.

BlueWhiteIllustrated.com - Jones breaks it down (FREE)

Maybe Nick Jones will see a PSU offer, we did lose our most highly touted '09 CB signee, Darrell Givens. Nick is a 3* prospect on Scout.com (I believe), and one of the main Scout.com guys said that he is worthy of an offer on his own merit but that PSU had guys like him closer to home. He has had some good 7-on-7 showings, and maybe offering as a CB with the bonus of being Marcus Lattimore's teammate is just too much to pass up...this kid has been saying well before the recruiting process started up that he was a PSU fan.
