UB, you and I both know that he brought this on himself. Just as he has to do what's right for him, so, too, does PSU.
FWIW, I'd prefer Jones for a few reasons, but Bolden is certainly a top-flite prospect. If PJ can't *** (as you say), Bolden would definitely work.
My primary concern with losing PJ is the ramifications re: western PA. Losing Pryor and Jones (especially to sPitt) would have long-term effects (IMO).

Yes, PJ made his own bed here. Funny how he calls CJ and says he is misquoted or everything is taken out of context. I'm glad the staff told him if he was looking, so were they. I like the fact Bolden was on campus the same weekend. Makes it look like a sh*t or get off the pot PJ type of thing.
Got to admit, while Jones is the better talent, his updates nauseate me to the fullest extent. He is beginning to become a drama queen himself. If he isn't sure about decisions and always seems to be misquoted, then STOP DOING INTERVIEWS. He has no problem doing them.
His mother also helped make his bed for all the criticism by posting on the board. When he makes his decision, his recruitment ends. It's a Jones thing. That got old and have to admit, the kissing as* by the posters towards Jen made me puke.
I hope Bolden enjoyed his visit and hope its not the last we hear from him. I think Jones continues this drama filled soap opera. Bolden came over on his own dime. That tells me he is interested.
As far as losing him to Pitt, yes, that would be a hit. However, the kid would be making the worst mistake of his life just to be with his WPIAL buddies. That is like turning down a Stanford education to go to Temple.
Does it have long term ramifications? The way I look at things - Pitt has gotten Stinkston, Dickerson, Byham, Malecki; Lumpy; Burns, Matha, DeCicco, Nix, Nix, Fields, among others. Many with decent offer sheets and several with high star counts. The end result? A bunch of underachievers, or busts entirely. The only one worth a crap is DeCicco. While Pitt has "ruled the WPIAL" according to their fans, PSU has raped Maryland and gotten some significant kids from bordering states - NJ and Delaware. There is still a wide gap between the two programs in every shape of form.
Losing Pryor hurt. As for Dorian Bell and Corey Brown, time will tell. I think Bell will be a bust, and will transfer at some point. JMO.

Just to explain my point further, other teams besides Pitt could use our "history" against us, namely OSU and Michigan. It would be bad if kids started assuming PSU wasn't an option before even giving us a look.

Tell us how you really feel. I agree with much of what you said. Also agree about parents posting, definitely should wait until the LOI is signed and try not to get too attached to the board...you never know what will happen during the span of 4-5 years in college (best to keep space/moderate interest in a fan arena like that...particularly one that is payed for).
I agree on Bolden as well, I was deliriously happy to learn he had went from offered one week with his dad mentioning no plans of a visit to being on the PSU campus in such a short span. From the sounds of it, we've got an enamored QB prospect on our hands and quite frankly I'll take whoever wants to be here that has an offer.
If Bolden wants PSU, I want Bolden, regardless of the outcome with any other perspective recruit...because that wouldn't be fair to Bolden. Obviously it doesn't hurt that I'm of the belief he could be wildly successful in the PSU offense...he definitely seems to want a return visit and I'd LOVE to have him as well as his teammate Earnest Thomas (fits nicely with what we've been doing at S).

Reportedly, Bolden had a very good time at PSU this weekend. I am very curious to get PJ's thoughts on the situation.
Then again, maybe I'm not.

I'm kinda disoriented by QB recruiting this year -- after years of seeing top targets go elsewhere like Henne, Manuel and Taylor or catching them on the rebound like Devlin, Morelli and Newsome, it just seems weird to have a top flight QB commit early even if he is shopping around a bit now along with having another good one seriously interested as well. I get the feeling there's a better chance they land both than whiff on both.

Can we have both? I would love this. Bolden seems like a guy who is not scared of competition. I wouldn't mind either one, although I like PJ more. PJ needs to stop being a drama queen. I expect it from a girl, but not a 18 year old man. This is a huge decision for anyone, but I agree with UB, stop doing interviews.
Ultimately, I wouldn't be surprised to land either. I would want both, but we will get one.

Doesn't sound like Bolden is opposed to the idea of coming in with another elite QB, FWIW.
I don't expect to land both, but if PJ decides he wants to make this separation a divorce, Bolden is very much an option.

You know me, I'm never one for backing away from my view point.
The bolded passage is the thing. I don't go by words, go by actions. It seemed like they were happy about the PSU offer, but it was almost like on the back burner based on other obligations to other schools and track. Next thing you know, he is coming to visit with his old man. Got to like that. I like the Ernest Thomas offer as well.
I'm curious to see what happens if Bolden jumps on the PSU offer (think he waits a bit, but a great visit could change his mind) and what response would Jones have if he has yet to make up his mind on either reaffirming his verbal, or kicking PSU to the curb forever.
I want a kid who wants to be a Lion instead of a kid who is lukewarm. Bolden to me would help with recruiting and make the calls, something Jones has yet to do as a verbal.

Agree with you on both occasions. I think Bolden would relish the opportunity for competition. The question is will Jones? I doubt we get both. If we do, we have the best QB class in the country.

PJ said he didn't mind the prospect of competing with Newsome, so maybe he really wouldn't mind another QB in the class. Interesting to note that IF there were two QBs in the class that both could start -- one would burn his RS and be Newsome's back-up if he couldn't win the starting job, and the other would RS and be in line to start his 5th year.
Hey, I can dream, can't I?

Scout.com: Bolden Reports on PSU Visit
4/21
By Allen Trieu. Robert arrived on Friday with his father for the PSU visit, attended some meetings, toured the campus, and watched the team scrimmage. Robert says the PSU campus is beautiful and the people are nice, he payed particularly close attention to PSU QBs Daryll Clark and Kevin Newsome during the scrimmage. Will attend the MSU spring game but for right now things are busy with track so that will be it for now.

I think PJ doesn't have a problem with competing with Newsome, but would have a major problem competing with Bolden and Newsome. I don't think Bolden cares if he goes against Newsome and Jones.

Bill Conley: Several of the top QBs in Big Ten country stole the show at the Illinois NFTC - ESPN
Quote:
|
Robert Bolden (Orchard Lakes, Mich./St. Mary's) was much more skilled than expected coming into the NFTC. He is a tall, impressive athlete who catches your eye in warmups with his quick release and velocity. He consistently put the ball on the money -- both when dropping back and when sprinting out. Like the other quarterbacks, he'll need some work on his drops and setup, but he can truly throw the football. Bolden has yet to commit to any school but already has offers from Penn State, Michigan State and Louisville.
