'10 NY OG Daquan Jones (Penn State Verbal)
'10 NY OG Daquan Jones
Offensive guard
Johnson City (NY) Johnson City
Ht: 6-foot-4
Wt: 302 lbs
Forty: 5.4 secs
Class: 2010 (High School)

The scholarship offers are trickling in for Johnson City (N.Y.) OL Daquan Jones. He’s enjoying the attention and hoping more offers come soon.
The 6-foot-4, 300-pound offensive guard has already received written scholarship offers from Boston College and Maryland, and he said schools like Florida and Southern Cal have been corresponding with him through the mail, too. He said that he and his dad agree that if the Gators offered him, it would be “nice”, as he put it to Sporting News Today.
“I’m getting letters from all of these schools, and I’m filling out applications and getting my name out there further,” Jones told SN Today. “I got my first offer from Boston College. I went there for a camp and (assistant) coach (Jeff) Comissiong called my coach afterwards and said it’s possible they might offer a scholarship. Then Sept. 1 came around and I got that letter. It was a nice day.”
Jones is also hearing quite a bit from Michigan, Michigan State, Stanford, UCLA and UConn. The guard is listed as one of the top 250 players in the nation’s class of 2010, so he’s bound to get even more attention this summer. He told SN Today what he feels his strengths are.
“I think coaches like me because I’m big, and I get the compliment a lot that I’m quick on my feet and I’ll do what the coach tells me to do,” Jones said. “I really don’t know yet when I’ll make a decision, before my senior season or after it. It’s stressful. People ask you where you want to go, and right now I’m still not sure where I’d want to go."

Live an hour from Binghamton. Word on the street is he is a great kid and could definately play major Division I football. God knows he looks the part. Problem is his academics are VERY QUESTIONABLE. Surprised a few schools mentioned are seriously looking at him, if this academic problem is indeed true.

Linebackers lead the way in Philly - Insider - ESPN
Quote:
Daquan Jones, OG, Junior, Johnson City, N.Y.Jones was one of the more massive prospects in attendance and could have easily blended in with an Eagles' lineman who stopped by the NovaCare complex for an offseason workout. The New York native looked all of his listed 6-foot-4 and his 305 pounds; he was very well layered, looking lean enough to add a bit more bulk while maintaining his good feet.
Aside from his ideal size for a D-I offensive guard prospect, Jones ran very well on Sunday, showing great athleticism for his size (5.3 40, 4.66 shuttle). The shuttle shows his potential as short and long trapper if he ends up at guard, but don't be surprised if the quickness he demonstrated gets him a look at defensive tackle during his college career. Jones said several schools have expressed interest in his potential as defensive linemen, and he is expecting a breakout year on that side of the ball next fall.
We expected to see a higher power-ball score given his size, but the strength will come once Jones enters a full-time college weight training program to assist his drive blocking -- Jones' naturally great feet can't be coached. In terms of recruiting, the big man boasts offers from Syracuse, Rutgers, Boston College, Maryland and UConn. "I am looking for a great education and a school that's closer to home."

Other players who impressed Sunday included 6-4, 305-pound defensive tackle DaQuan Jones of Johnson City (N.Y.), who ran a 4.66 shuttle and threw the power ball 35 feet.

Jones has a coach (basketball?) who posts on BWI. He claims grades are not an issue.
Guess we'll know soon enough. He is scheduled to come up for a visit later this month.

Jones is on campus today and attended practice.
He was scheduled to meet with Anderson and JoePa, so we'll see about that offer and those grades.

Yeah, an offer would be nice for this kid. Really like his potential on the O or D line.

Scout.com: INSTANT UPDATE: Jones Development

By FOS staff. DaQuan Jones called the PSU staff with his SAT scores and they've told him the written offer is on the way. DaQuan is quoted as saying 'This changes everything'.

With the 3 commits already for the O-line I wonder if they're looking at him as a DT, or if they'll just be happy to get him and sort it out later.

Frank - I think I read that they're looking at him at DT first, but he certainly has the ability to play OG as well.
I'm looking forward to his visit for Senior Camp.

Thanks, 42. Nice to see Jones has the flexibility to play either side of the ball, and it sure seems convenient the way he got his SAT scores and an offer and then Ferguson was quickly out of the picture.
That senior camp is shaping up to be something special.

Scout.com: Jones Impressed by Penn State
6/10
By Stephen Greecer. DaQuan plans to visit Illinois, Rutgers, and Pittsburgh this summer...also considering Boston College, Maryland, and Syracuse....wants to find where he is most comfortable and would like to get out there and look at his options. DaQuan will visit PSU June 27-28th and has already made numerous PSU visits with his dad and HS coach...says it would be an honor to play for DLine coach Larry Johnson one day. Talks about his game and expectations for himself and the team his senior year.
