Defensive lineman DaQuan Jones from Johnson City, N.Y., has committed to Penn State according to ESPN.com.
The 6-foot-4 and 300-pound Jones made 63 tackles during his junior season. He is one of the top defensive tackle prospects on the East Coast.
Jones committed to Penn State over scholarship offers from Boston College, Maryland, Syracuse, Illinois, Rutgers, Connecticut, Pitt and a few others.

Kurelic’s Comment: Several days ago I said the Nittany Lions have a good shot at landing Jones, so his decision comes as no surprise. Jones is commitment No. 10 for Paterno’s 2010 recruiting class, and we will soon follow up with quotes from Jones.

Defensive lineman DaQuan Jones from Johnson City, N.Y., committed to Penn State over the weekend. NittanyNetwork.com caught up with Jones to talk about this past weekend and his decision.
“Penn State is only about three hours away so we left about 6 a.m. on Saturday morning,” Jones said. “When I got there I did the camp. It was great. I had a lot of fun.

Kurelic’s Comment: Penn State’s class of 10 verbal commitments is shaping up to be one of the country’s best. Paterno is recruiting well both in Pennsylvania and outside state borders.

Bob doesn't check at all. He supposedly has these impecibile sources. He needs new ones. I don't think Clemmings stays with Pitt in the end with all this drama.

"I wanted to come out and dominate the offensive line," said Jones, whom Martinson called "tremendous."

By Sean Fitz. DaQuan is just trying to do well in school right now while also gearing up for the basketball season, first game being this Friday. PSU coach Mike McQueary stopped by earlier this week and DaQuan will now be coming for his official on January 15th after having missed his official in early December. Earned Defensive MVP honors playing in the Ernie Davis Classic and will be heading to the Offense-Defense Bowl....finished his senior football campaign with 73 tackles, 35 tackles for loss, 16 sacks, and four forced fumbles....also played offensive tackle.

High school football: Player of the Year Jones a gentle giant | theithacajournal.com | The Ithaca Journal
Quote:
More than a few have likened him to a teddy bear, 6 feet, 4 inches and 300 or so pounds worth of likeable, cuddly Big Ten Conference-bound tackle.
He speaks softly and carries a big smile, one he displays easily, naturally and with regularity. The moniker to which he answers - "Dae-Dae" - suggests little-boy cute rather than mountain-sized sack master and destroyer of all things in the A-Gaps.
"People say I'm too nice to be on the defensive line, but there are two ways to play the game of football," said Johnson City High senior DaQuan Jones. "You can be a mean brute like most guys, or you can play smart, high-engine, have fun playing.
"That's how I play it."
Jones, who has committed to Penn State University, has been selected the Elite 24 team's Player of the Year by members of the Press & Sun-Bulletin, Elmira Star-Gazette and Ithaca Journal sports staffs.

Offense-Defense All-American Bowl in Myrtle Beach, SC
Scott Kennedy, who is Director of Scouting at Scout.com, feels Daquan Jones "is the best interior linemen here". Adrian Coxson is playing in the game, too (along with scores of other commits from "big name" schools)...

Jones could be one of the bigger-impact players from this class.
I wouldn't mind seeing him take over for Still in a couple years a 3-tech.

Scout.com: DaQuan Jones: O-D Highlights

Myrtle Beach, S.C. - The West squad had its way with most of the East's defense in a 35-0 ground base thrashing at the Offense-Defense All-American Bowl last week, but one defender showed up big throughout the game.
The West thoroughly dominated the East in a 35-0 Offense-Defense All-American Bowl in Myrtle Beach, S.C. last week. Despite the lopsided score, one of the most impressive individual performances for either team belonged to East defensive tackle DaQuan Jones (6-4/300).
The Penn State commitment had an excellent week of practice and his good work carried over into the game.
Jones, a Top 10 defensive tackle in the nation by Scout, has an ideal combination of size, quickness, leverage, and tenacity. He has a quick first step that lets him penetrate a gap between offensive linemen. He also has excellent strength and can occupy a double team or co

Childhood friends step closer to NFL dreams - News10Now.com (VIDEO)
Quote:
JOHNSON CITY, N.Y. -- He's 6'4'' 300 pounds, but off the football field DaQuan Jones is known as the big teddy bear. He signed his letter of intent to play at Penn State University in front of family and what seemed like the entire school.
"It was hot up there. I was a little nervous. The heat up there, and the light was not good. I thought I'd pass out about five times, but I made it," said Jones.
It's the reward for years of preparation, which included 5:30 a.m. workouts even during the school year. The last hurdle he cleared, his SATs.
"I was at work when the letter came in. They called me at work and told me he was accepted. I just broke down crying honestly. For me I just wanted him to get an education. That was my main thing.Football was always secondary in my household. It's a blessing for me," said his father Steven Jones.
Jordan Thomas is Jones' close-friend and the two were teammates before he moved to a different school. Thomas was an electrifying player at Union-Endicott High School.
