Bill Kurelic: It's no surprise that the region's top linebackers were the showstoppers at Penn State - ESPN
Quote:
As advertised
Zach Zwinak (Frederick, Md./Linganore) worked out with the running backs Saturday. He showed his power and a tenacious attitude. However, look for Zwinak to play linebacker at the next level. He lacks the speed and elusiveness many recruiters look for in running back prospects, but he has what it takes to be a good one on the other side of the ball in college.

Frederick (Md.) Linganore star Zach Zwinak headed to State College last weekend to attend the Nike Football Training Camp at Penn State. It wasn’t the first time Zwinak has been to Happy Valley - he attended the Penn State-Michigan game last season.
The 6-foot-1 and 230-pound Zwinak worked out with the running backs at the NFTC. I asked Zwinak if he prefers offense and he said he wouldn’t mind getting a shot at running back in college. However, I see him playing linebacker at the next level.

It looks like Zwinack has more interest in PSU than originally thought.
I still think he ends up at VT (legacy factor), but we have a fighting chance.
He has received positive marks for his work at the camps thusfar.

Personally, I believe Penn State is the team to beat for the following Rivals.com-rated four-star prospects: fullback/linebacker Zach Zwinak from Linganore High School in Frederick, Md.

Joe Paterno and his staff are working the state of Maryland hard for their 2010 recruiting class, just as they did in 2009 when they had great success in the Terrapins’ home state.
One of their targets is Frederick (Md.) Linganore star Zach Zwinak, who visited Penn State on Thursday.

Scout.com: Louisville offers nation’s No. 1 fullback
6/3
By Mike Hughes. Louisville has offered. Zach says he likely won't decide until next season, and that when he first got into college football he followed VT because his dad played there, but now he follows a lot of teams and his dad is leaving the decision to him.

Scout.com: Buckeyes Impressed With Zwinak's Athleticism
6/10
By Adam Jardy. Linganore HC Rick Conner talks about one of his star players, Zach Zwinak, and says that Ohio State simply likes him as a football player...being recruited as an athlete. Coach says that Zach wants the big stage, wants to carry the ball and see how he'll be used as a football player...location also matters. Coach predicts that Ohio State will be on his list of top schools and hope to have his top schools by the end of the month.

By Sean Fitz. Zach says it took a couple of weeks to pick the two schools he did, Virginia Tech and PSU, and that it will be a hard decision between the two....likes both colleges, says both have great coaches, and he loves being around the people at both schools. Claims neither as a favorite and says a decision is probably coming in the next few weeks.

Who knows? Apparently the VT Rivals guy thinks he's coming to PSU.

I thought this was 72/25 VTech, but I'm moving it to 60/40 VTech.
We may not get him, but we have a better shot than we think.

So this decision looks to potentially be made this Friday prior to Zach's game....he'd be a great addition to this '10 PSU recruiting class, an addition our RB commit (Silas Redd) and RB prospect(s) (Lattimore) would enjoy.
I don't know how close he could come to pulling the trigger for PSU, but I'm not discounting any legacy recruits with Dieffenbach and Ricketts committing to PSU in this class.... If he is at all concerned about the VT offense, the direction of the VT offense, continuity with the offensive coordinator/position coaches at VT, or is secretly in love with PSU, that would be just great.
I hope he saw our use of Joe Suhey and the role that was carved out for him in the 1st '09 game. I know he has made many visits to PSU (at least three, one being camp), if he is as talented toting the rock as being reported, he'll get the ball and catch some passes if he comes to PSU.
