Rutgers lands Rollers' Hill- PennLive.com
Quote:
Two weeks ago, Steel-High rising senior Jordan Hill had his chaos in order:
He would take his football recruiting trips, four, maybe five, then pick a favorite.
On Friday, that controlled chaos became sudden order.
Hill, the 6-4, 290-pound fast-as-a-back defensive lineman chose Rutgers as his college home.
It was a five-hour visit, but Hill made his decision 45 minutes after he exited his vehicle in Piscataway, N.J.
"I wanted to get it over with before the start of my senior season," Hill said Friday, shortly after his return. "But it was tough making that decision. But once I got to Rutgers, I knew it was the place I wanted to go."
So, just like that, Rutgers, which had made landing Hill a high priority, won the battle over Pittsburgh, Connecticut, Boston College, Penn State, Notre Dame and Alabama ... in no particular order.
"I just felt so comfortable around everyone at Rutgers," Hill said. "I felt nothing was fake about them."
Hill, who played linebacker and defensive end for the Rollers last year en route to Steel-High's PIAA Class A championship, is projected as a down lineman at Rutgers.
"I think I have an opportunity to play right away, too," Hill said. "They use an eight-man rotation [for down linemen], and right now they only have three guys coming back who were a part of that."
"Jordan was a priority recruit for them," said Steel-High head coach Rob Deibler, who accompanied Hill on the trip to New Jersey. "We talked with the coaches and they made it clear they really wanted Jordan.
"Then, when we were in talking with [head coach Greg] Schiano, Jordan said right there that he wanted to commit to Rutgers," Deibler said. "Schiano's eyes got real big; you could tell he was happy to hear that."
Hill said Rutgers' strong criminal justice program -- his intended major -- helped clarify the decision.
"They have one of the best criminal justice programs in the country," Hill said. "Right now, I'm thinking about being a probation officer, but I might want to go a little higher than that."
Hill is one several starters returning from Steel-High's state championship team, a team expected to make a strong run toward the 2008 district and PIAA titles.

I'm a little surprised by this. We've picked up two similar players recently and they all seem to project to DT.

By Sean Fitz (Blue White Illustrated, Rivals). Larry Johnson SR. was at Steel-High on Thursday, Penn State has offered. Pitt leads, although Jordan has decommitted from Rutgers they're still in it...supposed to visit PSU some time in mid-January.

You're right.
Larry Johnson knows nothing about recruiting and development.
Good point.

I think they were interested in him all along but there might have been one or two kids above him in the pecking order. Now that the picture of the class is clearer along with where some other targets are headed they've decided he's the next one to get an offer. It might also be that Devlin's departure has opened up a scholie, or there could be some other early departures in store.

LJ has been visiting Steel-High and recruiting both Jordan and Jeremiah before they even played there respective junior seasons, inviting them up to games and such. It isn't like we whiffed on a bunch of people and threw a scholarship at some kid just to get a body, Jordan Hill has visited PSU countless times for games and such and LJ has been to Steel-High 6-8 times, minimum.

Steel-High's Hill has PSU on his short list - Bob Flounders: On Penn State football - PennLive.com
Quote:
Steel-High football star Jordan Hill is seriously considering a Penn State scholarship offer he received late last week, The Patriot-News has learned.
When contacted by The Patriot-News this afternoon, Hill confirmed the PSU offer but said he has not finalized his college decision. Hill, a one-time summer verbal to Rutgers, is still looking at the Scarlet Knights' program but Penn State and Pittsburgh are also in the running for his services.
The 6-2, 288-pound defensive lineman was a dominant performer on Steel-High's PIAA Class A championship squad. PSU defensive line coach Larry Johnson Sr. is heading up Hill's recruitment. A decision could be coming very soon, possibly as early as Monday.

Hill eyeing official PSU visit before deciding - Bob Flounders: On Penn State football - PennLive.com

Posted by BOB FLOUNDERS, Of The Patriot-News December 22, 2008 15:21PM
Steel-High standout defensive lineman Jordan Hill said today he plans to take an official visit to Penn State next month. He is college choice is down to three programs -- PSU, Pittsburgh and Rutgers.
"I'm going to wait,'' Hill said earlier today. "I haven't made up my mind and I want to make sure I get it right.''
Hill said he plans to speak with PSU defensive line coach Larry Johnson Sr. later this week to set up his State College visit. His target date is the January 10th weekend. PSU offered Hill a scholarship last Thursday.
Hill, a 6-2, 288-pound defensive tackle, was one of the leaders of the Rollers' PIAA Class A championship team. He originally gave a verbal commitment to Rutgers last summer but reconsidered.
Hill said the Scarlet Knights are still on his radar. He visited Pittsburgh earlier this month.
