Paterno to retire?

From a thread in the BP rumor mill:

Heard this is a rumor circulating amongst Penn State fans.

Couldn't find anything in print but I've heard it nonetheless.

Just talked to my friend at Penn State.

Told me the rumor is Paterno has ordered an extra box for his family.

Apparently he called an impromptu coaches' meeting yesterday after which coaches were seen leaving teary-eyed.

Also, he had heard that the programs for tomorrow's game were being reprinted.

You guys hearing anything?

Over on the Scout PSU forum...folks seems kind've divided about it. Some people seem VERY sure of themselves that Paterno is NOT going to retire. Others question that b/c of some recent events. Theories which have floated around are:

-An assistant coach may leave (speculators have guess maybe Galen Hall)
-There may be some ceremony for Paterno with the CFB Hall of Fame.
-Celebration for 300 wins for Paterno if PSU wins.

Also a larger number of players than usual have been invited to the ceremony.

I have no inside info...so I'm in the dark just as much as others.

300 wins? Paterno is nearing 400...this could be Penn State's 800th win, joining Texas, Nebraska, tOSU, Michigan & ND in the 800 win club. Since this is a rumor thread I will give my reason why I don't believe there will be any kind of breaking news after MSU: It would take away from this squad. And IMHO that is something that drives Joe absolutely nuts, he has said that many times this year and said it this Thursday on the call-in show.

Basically said people don't ask him about this player or that player, comment on how great the squad is doing or offer suggestions - it is always Joe this, Joe that. Sounded like he was just frustrated with all of the attention, no way would anything come down after beating MSU, a Big 10 title (shared or not), Rose Bowl bid and the programs 800th win.

I heard Joe was RIDICULOUSLY fired up at the Rally. If this team doesn't come out and blast MSU I will be shocked.

Paterno has always struck me as a straight shooter, yet the conspiracy theorists imply that he's been lying when he has consistently denied leaving after this season. IMO they've got too much time on their hands to be sitting around reading tea leaves like this.
