Scout.com: Royer Joins Penn State Class
7/30
By Matt Alkire. Dakota was interviewed yesterday and says he'll be putting the PSU hat on at his press conference...knew PSU was the right place after many visits, says it was the perfect fit and there was no picking anywhere else. Dakota talks about the great relationships he has been building with some of the class of 2010 PSU commits, his impression of the PSU coaches having camped every summer, as well as how he already feels like part of the family and knows he'll learn a lot from the PSU coaches. PSU likes him in an Aaron Maybin role.

Dakota stays in-state -
7/29
Quote:
By Bill Kurelic, NN Recruiting Analyst
bkurelic@nittanynetwork.com
July 29, 2009
Under Armour All-American defensive end/linebacker Dakota Royer from Manheim (Pa.) Central announced his college choice at a press conference at his high school. As expected, it was great news for the Nittany Lions.
Royer has become Penn State commitment No. 15 in what is shaping up to be one of Joe Paterno’s best recruiting classes in a number of years.
Royer had narrowed his list of over two dozen scholarship offers down to five schools: Penn State, Pitt, Notre Dame, North Carolina and Oregon. He visited all of those schools at least once - with the exception of Oregon - before announcing a commitment to the Nittany Lions.

Kurelic’s Comment: Landing Royer was certainly expected. Nittany Network has been predicting this commitment. However, it is always good to hear the official announcement. As far as in-state targets, the next most likely Pennsylvanian for Paterno to land is defensive lineman Sharrif Floyd from George Washington High in Philadelphia.

I get a good vibe off Royer. He strikes me as one of those guys you'll never have to worry about getting satisfied with himself. You'll look around one day and he'll have jumped the depth chart queue, like Mike Mauti.

Pursuit of Royer is over - The York Daily Record
Quote:
Manheim Central's Dakota Royer gave his verbal commitment to Penn State.
By FRANK BODANI
Daily Record/Sunday News
Updated: 07/30/2009 08:55:47 PM EDT
Certainly, the lofty comparisons are flattering to the newest Penn State verbal commitment.
Already, Manheim Central High's Dakota Royer is being talked about filling the role of pass-rushing specialist Aaron Maybin, who left early for the NFL draft this spring.
Royer, as long expected, gave his pledge to the Nittany Lions on Thursday, the 15th commitment to the class of 2010. He chose the Lions over Notre Dame and Pitt but also had an impressive collection of other scholarship offers, including UCLA, Colorado, Michigan State and Illinois.
The 6-foot-3, 220-pound Royer is expected to play either linebacker or pass-rushing defensive end -- or both -- in college.
"He's one of the more dynamic players in the entire East," said Tom Lemming, a recruiting analyst for CBS Sports who is based near Chicago. "He has real good size, real good speed and more production than most everybody else in Pennsylvania. To me, production is everything."
As opposed to recruits who impress most with their physical attributes and sprint times at combine workouts, "Dakota actually does it on the field," Lemming said. "I'd be surprised if he doesn't end up as an All-American at Penn State."
At Manheim, Royer earned first-team all-state honors at defensive end last fall while also catching 56 passes for 1,099 yards and averaging about 5.5 yards per carry on 51 rushing attempts.
"He could be the most interesting recruit in this class," said Cory James of Scout.com.
"He's real athletic and compares favorably to Aaron Maybin. It will be interesting to see if he sticks at linebacker in the Nate Stupar mold or if he bulks up a little bit and plays defensive end and becomes the Aaron Maybin-type of athlete."
Though many schools recruited him only as a linebacker, Royer did impress last season with 32 tackles for loss and 13 sacks. He is know for his relentless pursuit of ballcarriers.
"He's a tremendous pass rusher with speed off the edge," said Mike Farrell of Rivals.com.

Sporting News
Manheim (Pa.) Central DE Dakota Royer has made his decision--he'll play for Penn State next year. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound weakside defensive end said it came down to three schools in the end, the Nittany Lions, Notre Dame and Pittsburgh. A few weeks ago, he'd told Sporting News he was down to a top 10 of the above mentioned schools and Oregon, Michigan State, Illinois, North Carolina, Virginia Tech, UCLA and West Virginia.
The Sporting News Top 100 member explained what he'll bring to the next level.
"They wouldn't just get an athlete with me," Royer told SN. "First off, they're getting a student athlete, because academics mean a lot to me. I'd want to help make the environment better at the school ... I would help out with any charity work. I enjoy helping people who are less fortunate than others ... I would do anything to put a smile on kids' faces."
As a junior Royer had 86 tackles and 32 tackles for loss, with 13 sacks. He also caught 56 passes for 1,099 yards and five touchdowns as a receiver.

The game two days from now against Lancaster Catholic ('10 QB Kyle Smith for LC) should be aired on PCN (Pennsylvania Cable Network) or FSN....prolly around 7:00-7:30.
