Please note that these rankings are where the prospects are at this moment. The order will change when our first official Top 50 is revealed in the spring, and it will change once again as the season plays out. Young men of this age develop rapidly, both physically and in their knowledge of the game, so some will progress faster and further than others. That includes young men not even on this list who will no doubt come “out of nowhere” over the next year to prove that they also are future college players. But barring anything drastic, those on this list will be ranked highly all season and all will play at major programs.

5. Dakota Royer, Manheim Central HS (Manheim) LB- Has starred since he was a freshman and he just keeps getting better. On defense, he has primarily played end, but his lean 6'3 1/2" 225-pound frame is better suited at linebacker, and that's where the position he is being recruited for. Great pass rusher, but he will need to learn to play the other aspects of the position. That shouldn't be a problem for this extremely hard worker. Also an excellent tight end. Has early offers from Pitt, Penn State, Maryland, Illinois, Stanford and Rutgers.

By M Alkire. Michigan State has offered and Dakota plans to visit them soon. He will also be visiting Pitt and Penn State in the coming weeks, and is hearing from Notre Dame, LSU and Virginia. Royer says Notre Dame is on the rise and is very high on his list.

BY M Alkire. Royer had a really good visit to Pitt and got to talk to the staff about the school and academics. He really liked the Pitt staff and says Kentucky offered this weekend as well.

Joe Paterno is off to a great start with his 2010 recruiting class.
The Nittany Lions have already secured commitments from linebacker Mike Hull of Canonsburg (Pa.) Canon-McMillan and quarterback P.J. Jones of McKees Rocks (Pa.) Sto-Rox, two of the Keystone State's top 10 prospects.
Defensive end Dakota Royer of Manheim (Pa.) Central is among the state's top 10 prospects and is also on Paterno's hit list.
The 6-foot-3 and 220-pound Royer has been a starter since the beginning of his sophomore season. He only played defense that season, but also played wide receiver and some running back during his junior season.
Royer had 11 sacks during his sophomore season. He made 86 tackles including 11 sacks during his junior season and also caught 56 passes for over 1,000 yards and nine touchdowns.

Star PA Linebacker Surprised by Maryland Visit
2/23

Written by Jeff Ermann - Monday, 23 February 2009
One of the highest rated recruits in attendance this weekend was Manheim (Pa.) linebacker Dakota Royer, who holds an impressive bunch of scholarship offers. Royer is one of the more highly sought linebackers in the Mid-Atlantic and has been rumored to be a Penn State lean. Not only is that not the case, he said, but he left College Park excited about the prospects of potentially playing at Maryland.
"It was very good ... They are up there right now," said Royer, who has offers from Maryland, Penn State, Colorado, Notre Dame, Illinois, Stanford, UConn, Michigan State, Kentucky and Rutgers.
"Maryland, Pitt, Penn State, Michigan State, Notre Dame -- those are my top [schools]," he said.
Royer offered a rundown of his visit:

Jeff Ermann...blast from the past. I remember him disappearing from scout, but I had no idea he was writing for the Terrapin's ESPN affiliate site, 'terpcenter.com'...the guy is a riot for sure.

lmao how is he a riot? He's actually built a very good site, everyone knows how much scout lacks in scouting and resources.
Royer supposedly had a very good visit, still seems like a PSU lock unless ND can sway him.

At least he had a good visit. I was hoping he wasn't going to punch Fridge in the face and take a dump on his desk.
Not worried here...
