Maybe PSU should take the same approach that other schools take with players of Silas talent and tell them they can play anywhere they want. But from what I hear that isn't PSU style and it will cost them. I have heard that some of the other schools on his list have told him he could play any position he wants. That to me makes those on the list much more attractive the PSU.

Okay, are you Silas Redd or something?
If not, who in the hell cares what you think?
Where is the ignore feature?

I'm not used to seeing so many kids favoring PSU this early in the process. So what do you guys think -- is it just a statistical fluke, or have the past four seasons been enough for the kids to have grown up seeing PSU as successful and therefore a desirable destination for school?

I think our recent success has had a lot to do with our resurgence. We've always offered the quality Penn State experience, but it didn't appeal to as many kids when we were losing.
Another factor, Frank, is two of our recruiting zones are loaded this year in the state of PA and South Jersey. I predict at least half of our class will come from these two areas alone. We've generally done well in-state, and we'll grab a couple of WPIAL kids this year (unlike the last couple of years). With the commitments of Hodges, Carson and now - maybe - Kersey, South Jersey kids are giving PSU a strong look (again).
I'm sure there's more to it, but those two things stuck out to me.

goRU, I'm not sure if others care but I certainly don't, and would actually prefer if you moved most of the bickering to PSU '10 recruiting. It will be easier to update this thread with actual recruiting articles when posters want to view Redd's thread, without all the clutter.

Thanks. Didn't mean to bother you, but my posting in the thread other then updates and the foreign poster (not PSU fan) really took the thread off course. I imagine that is why numerous '10 prospect profiles are created and locked, to avoid that very thing.
---------
Anyway, I don't fall under any of the guidelines that would constitute being a booster. Kinda upset that Redd is bummed about being looked at by PSU as a DB, that pisses me off but I think he'll be a RB if he ends up at PSU. Brian Norwood/PSU recruited Stephfon Green as a DB and he had attended PSU camps, but based on his senior year in H.S. they told him he could come in as a RB and see what happens.
I noted that Stephfon Green will be a RS JR by the time the '10 class can step on the field, that would give Silas Redd 3 years of touches and he could very well battle for the starting RB position with Stephfon Green in '10 if Evan Royster declares for the draft before his RS SR season in '09.
That leaves Stephfon Green, Brent Carter (RS SR in '10 - battling back from ACL this past season, should be 100% for '09), Brandon Beachum (if he doesn't grow into a FB/short yardage/power runner hybrid type) & Curtis Dukes (freshmen - '09 class) at RB.
If he were to RS, he could be a RS FR in '11 which would be Stephfon Green's senior year...and we're left with Beachum, Dukes, and whoever comes on board in '10 & '11. So basically we could be looking at a starting RB competition in '10 & '11.

Coaches will just say that to get his signature on the NLI and then forget that promise. Ask Dorin Dickerson if he is truly happy at Pitt after being promised to play WR.

The cherry on top of the entire weekend came when class of 2010 four-star quarterback Paul Jones (McKees Rocks/Pa./Sto-Rox) became the second big time prospect to commit early to the Nittany lions joining fellow four-star WPIAL recruit Mike Hull (Canonsburg/Pa./Canon McMillan). Jones and Hull are arguably the top two prospects coming out of Western Pennsylvania next season.

Jay Paterno Working Ohio For Juniors
Posted Today at 16:20 by kurelicscorner
Jay Paterno stopped at Youngstown (Ohio) Cardinal Mooney on Monday and offered a scholarship to cornerback/running back Braylon Heard. Paterno also recently stopped at Hubbard to take a look at running back Andre Givens and wide receiver/defensive back Kurtis Drummond. Paterno's other northeast Ohio stops included Warren Harding to check on athlete Mike Dorsey and linebacker Davion Rogers.

"Recruiting Notes" by Loudoun Extra Points | LoudounExtra.com | The Washington Post
Quote:
We had a comment on the blog not too long ago asking if we had heard anything about Loudoun County standout TE-LB Chase Williams receiving an early offer from Missouri. I did some reporting and can tell you that while Williams has not received an offer yet, he is drawing plenty of interest from the school.
Williams was initially planning on attending Missouri's junior day this weekend, but has instead opted to stay close to home and will be attending Maryland's junior day instead, his brother Blake Williams told me.
Blake Williams and his father, Gregg Williams, were both hired by the New Orleans Saints recently, but Blake told me that he is "99 percent sure" Chase will be back in Loudoun County and that something drastic would have to happen for Williams to move to Louisiana.
In addition, Chase is expecting an in-school visit on Wednesday from the head coach and recruiting coordinator of a major local ACC program, and it could be that Williams will receive an early offer at that time.
To date, the only offer he has received is from New Mexico State, where newly hired head coach DeWayne Walker has promised Williams plenty of playing time as a freshman. Walker formerly worked on Gregg Williams' staff with the Washington Redskins.
Williams has a list of favorites, though that list is expected to change. Virginia Tech, Missouri and Miami are all at the top of the list, though he has yet to really delve deep into the recruiting process with Maryland, Penn State, Michigan, Alabama and Southern Cal – all of whom have reached out to Williams recently. Those programs have been turning on the heat and Williams is planning to schedule some unofficial visits for later this spring. Williams did take recruiting trips to Penn State and Virginia Tech. He was in attendance at the VT-Virginia game and had a strong impression of the Blacksburg school.
Other schools showing interest in the form of letters, phone calls and emails include Virginia, Duke, North Carolina, LSU, Florida, Georgia, Boise State, Nebraska, Clemson, Stanford, Princeton, UCLA, Colorado, Boston College and South Carolina.
There is no doubt Williams has become one of the top recruits in the area, perhaps in the country, and already has offers to attend nationwide passing camps for Scout.com's top recruits.
He is being recruited as an athlete because of his ability to play both linebacker and tight end. He was an honorable mention All-Met linebacker, but was up for consideration as a tight end as well. And with his frame and athleticism and the possibility of filling out even more, Williams may be best suited on the offensive side of the ball, where he looked like a natural pass catcher and playmaker. Williams told me when I interviewed him for a feature story last year that he preferred the defensive side of the ball, however.

That's a preposterous question.... his name is CHASE. I wasn't aware he was permitted to play anywhere else other than Missouri... of course he'll be going there.
