It is true that things have gotten ridiculous, but Floyd has also been extremely ridiculous during all of his camp appearances....rivals is just basically falling in line with what scout thought of Floyd for months now - 5* elite prospect.

somehow im not surprised to see PJ out of the 100 i mean after all he did commit to PSU he couldn't possibly be an elite prospect : P

Yup, committing to PSU sure hurt Silas Redd's chances of being in the top 100. The one you should really be ticked off about is Adrian Coxson. 6'2", 200, 4.5 and offers from the likes of (obviously) PSU, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, ND and Virginia Tech isn't a top 100 player? Alllllllllllllllllllllrighty then.

Don't remind me, because I am definitely pissed about that. I like that Redd is now in the Rivals 100, and I am so happy to have that kid committed. I'd take him over in-state ATH/RB Corey Brown 10 times out of 10...think he is going to either be a legit every-down back from day one, develop as a #1 and be every-down, or a combo punch with 6'2 225 TR FR RB Curtis Dukes (10-15 carries a game, 4-5 receptions, KR-PR).

-Not having Coxson as a top 100.

-Talking crap on why Hull isn't a rivals 100 prospect (then he goes to the rivals NJ premier camp and gets great reviews).

-Dropping PJ as a rivals 100 prospect - despite the fact that you had him there to begin with, moved him down but it still kept him in the rivals 100...THEN PJ gets injured yet selected as an elite 11 QB prospect and you drop him out of the rivals 100. If he plays like he is capable of, and has the past two years, he'll end up right back in the rivals 100 after his senior season.

I've come to the conclusion that rivals isn't as serious about the areas PSU recruits, at least not as serious as scout. Rivals always seems to badly botch prospects in PA and I notice the same thing with VA, MD, NJ, NY. If Rivals has our 3 PA OLine commits all as 3* prospects it wouldn't surprise me at all...right now Ricketts and Graham have no stars - Ricketts (should be 4* 6'6 265-270 OT that plays nasty, dad is a former 1st round OLineman, WPIAL comp, etc.), Graham (should be high 3* - if not 4*), and Dieffenbach (3* OT....uhhh the kid isn't going to be an OT, OG/C prospect...get it right rivals and evaluate him as an interior OLineman - not a 30 something 3* OT despite holding his own [even against Sharrif Floyd] while competing at camps and such) should be a 4* OG or C prospect.

Boisture

re: Rivals/Scout in the Northeast, it's a matter of whether you prefer bias (Farrell) to bias AND ignorance (Lichtenfels).

BlueWhiteIllustrated.com - Calif. WRs highlight additions to the Rivals250

Rivals.com Prospect Rankings Rivals 250

With the update of the Rivals 100 a day ago Redd broke in at #90 (now a Rivals 100 4* prospect) and the #12 ATH.

Rivals 250:

PA LB (PSU commit) Mike Hull jumps from #182 to #145 (37 spot jump)...I expected something like this after their ridiculous excuses for him not being Rivals 100, and his showing at the Rivals NJ premier camp. Still 4* LB.

PA DE (PSU commit) Kyle Baublitz #147 in this Rivals 250...not sure where he was prior to this, other then being a 4* on rivals.

PA OT (PSU commit) Tom Ricketts makes first appearance in Rivals 250 - #142. Went from NR/NR to 4* OT.

PA C/OG (PSU commit) Miles Dieffenbach makes first appearance in Rivals 250 - #206. Grabs 4th star.

VA DT (PSU commit) Evan Hailes #224 in this Rivals 250...not sure where he was prior to this, other then being a 4* on rivals.

-------

Bad News:

PA QB (PSU commit) Paul Jones barely drops out of Rivals 100 after having been selected to Elite 11 but not participating this weekend due to a broken ankle...first time out of the Rivals 100 but obviously still a Rivals 250 prospect - checks in at #106 - still 4* QB.

PA DE/OLB Dakota Royer drops out of Rivals 250 (#194). Still 4* DE.

MD WR (PSU commit) Adrian Coxson drops out of Rivals 250 (from #207)...RIDICULOUS! I can't even comprehend this move...still 4* WR.

I dont care what rivals says about Adrian Coxson...the kid is absolutely legit if he plays to 50 percent of his potential in college he will definately be a first round NFL draft pick I just am absolutely stunned at how rivals could rate someone (since they love "potential") with so much upside so low its unbelievable.

---btw its also funny how royer drops down just days before a probable PSU commitment : PPPPPP

Here's my view with rankings. They're generally a fairly good barometer for who will be successful. Of course, they're not 100% accurate. Far from it. If they were, Mike Hart and Braylon Edwards would have been, at best, role players at Michigan, and guys like Kevin Grady and Steve Schilling would be future NFL stars. Like your Royer/Coxson complaints, I have questions about Christian Pace, Ken Wilkins, Austin White etc...

That being said, if you're going to get worked up over rankings, please, don't do it in July before the kids' senior years. There's so much that remains to be seen. Some kids will blow up. Some kids will see their stock decrease. Wait until February to really get worked up over rankings.

Just my two cents. FTR, you've seen my comments about Coxson, and I also think Royer is a solid four-star and probably a top 250 player.

while i respect that there is something to be said for consistency and bias. (lets not even get started on the referees during PSU Mich games ; ) ) but in all seriousness this is a punch in the stomach everytime stuff like this happens, i understand rankings dont mean anything poz was a 3 star and the kid is a legend now, but its just simply disrespect. Ive seen alot of bad penn state moments in my days and i understand you have to have a thick skin but come on Farrell's excuse for coxson not only not getting premoted but DEmoted was complete crap...more so than most of the things he says.

This isn't a recruiting question, but I figured it was the best place to ask.

I was taking a look at our schedule in 2009 and the next few years (State College - Penn State Football Schedule for 2009 and Beyond - Penn State and Happy Valley are Online at HappyValley.com) when I saw only 11 games and 7 conference games scheduled for the 2010 season and one OPEN week. Is this a typo?

nope it means we have yet to schedule a team for that date

That makes sense...I was just confused by the fact that they had "OPEN" there instead of "TBA." I assumed TBA meant they were still working out a scheduled opponent while OPEN meant something similar to a bye week.

At the least, it would be great if they could schedule a decent BCS opponent. Having Alabama is nice, but another challenge of sorts would help.

EDIT: I forgot that it's actually a conference game they are missing, since they only play 7...they already have 4 non-conference opponents lined up for 2010.

No - there are 8 conference games, so it is a bye week.
