Pitt makes offers

Pitt has made offers to four high school juniors in its continuing quest to lock down the Western Pennsylvania football market.

The players are: Sto-Rox quarterback Paul Jones and wide receiver Andrew Carswell, Fox Chapel offensive lineman Miles Dieffenbach, 6-4, 275, and Clairton wide receiver Kevin Weatherspoon.

Jones has completed 39 of 57 passes for 708 yards and eight touchdowns in three games for Sto-Rox (3-0). Weatherspoon scored on a 10-yard reception and 54-yard punt return in a 48-6 victory Friday against Frazier.

From the ND site. Miles had a good visit to Notre Dame, and felt he fit in well there. He will be at Boston College for their junior day next weekend.

Please note that these rankings are where the prospects are at this moment. The order will change when our first official Top 50 is revealed in the spring, and it will change once again as the season plays out. Young men of this age develop rapidly, both physically and in their knowledge of the game, so some will progress faster and further than others. That includes young men not even on this list who will no doubt come “out of nowhere” over the next year to prove that they also are future college players. But barring anything drastic, those on this list will be ranked highly all season and all will play at major programs.

14. Miles Dieffenbach, Fox Chapel Area HS (Fox Chapel) OL-
Currently the top OL prospect in the Pittsburgh area, he combines excellent 6'5" 275 pound size with quick feet. Can project at guard, tackle, or center at the next level. Very aggressive blocker. Excellent student. His father has been the tennis coach at Pitt for a long time and the Panthers are his lone offer so far.

I actually walked up the ramp into the stands at the MSU game right next to Dieffenbach. I wondered how much interest he had in PSU, especially considering the weather that day. I thought Pitt had a home game that day, too.

Guess he really wasn't that interested. If we get Betancourt, it won't matter anyway.

The 6-foot-4 and 285-pound junior was Fox Chapel’s starting center his freshman season. He played center again his sophomore year before moving to tackle for his junior season.

Panthers lead for Dieffenbach
Miles Dieffenbach (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) is one of the top offensive line prospects in the Keystone State. The 6-4, 285-pounder has been a varsity starter since his freshman season. Dieffenbach has played center and offensive tackle.
Dieffenbach' father George Dieffenbach has been the tennis coach at Pitt for over 30 years, and Miles has a scholarship offer from the Panthers.

"Pitt is probably my favorite right now, but I want to see what else is out there," Miles said. "My dad is open about it. He says it is my decision. But (his father being the tennis coach) is somewhat a factor. I've been around Pitt all my life."

Miles has visited Pitt many times. He attended a junior day at Notre Dame during the winter as well as one at Boston College. He attended two games at Penn State this past season.

In addition to those schools, Dieffenbach said he is also interested in Virginia, Michigan State, Syracuse and Northwestern. He plans to attend camps this summer at most of the schools on his list.
