According to this story, Penn State offered this past week and are in his final three. Massaro will be deciding in the next few weeks.

Looks like Massaro will commit to PSU soon.
I'm still scratching my head with this offer. Does this mean Crawford is looking elsewhere?

Looks like someone might have prematurely announced that he did receive an offer from PSU. Time will tell. I'm not sure what the staff is doing if this offer happens, unless this means Ellis and Edwards are gone. I'd be shocked if Crawford goes anywhere else but PSU.

Anyone have the opportunity to see Massaro on tape? I don't think he plays against the fiercest competition in PA so if he isn't dominating I am perplexed!

Don't think this means Crawford is going elsewhere. I think Crawford is almost in the bag for PSU based on comments. Me thinks this might be either Ellis or Edwards going elsewhere. I saw in our chat that Edwards' work ethic has been questioned. This kid has a mixed review on the board. People either like him (not love) or think this is a major mistake if he gets the offer.

IMO Crawford & Ellis should be the focus, regarding Penn States defensive line recruiting. Crawford has such a high ceiling and working with L.J. Sr. I think he could reach that potential. Ellis is Ellis, pretty impressive prospect. Despite our depth at DT if we push all the right buttons I could see him picking Penn State based on position coach, defensive prowess overall. 2 kids I am definitely keeping my eye on as much as possible.

Illinois fans are [supremely] confident they are going to land Ellis....FWIW.

I guess that shouldn't come as a surprise with Lockesly on staff. He's going to continue to be a force in the DC area...that is, until Zook coaches himself out of a contract...ha ha. j/k.

Illini fans are getting very cocky for a program that has won about 15 games since 2001. Sure, they are recruiting some bigger names, but we all know that RZ has trouble producing. Let's see how they're doing in 2-3 years.
FWIW, I wouldn't shock me if Ellis went to Illinois with Locksley recruiting him.

Massaro picks Paterno, Penn St. | Inquirer | 08/21/2007
Quote:
Pete Massaro found out firsthand that you don't keep Joe Paterno waiting.
Massaro, a 6-foot-4, 245-pound defensive end from Marple Newtown, called the Penn State coach to orally commit last night, and after pleasantries were exchanged, there was dead silence.
Paterno spoke up.
"He said, 'I'm waiting to hear you say it,' " Massaro said. "So I did. I said, 'I'm coming to Penn State.' "
Massaro's decision came down to two schools: Penn State and Boston College. After visiting the Eagles' campus in late July, the senior started to feel a pull toward State College.
He first took an unofficial visit in April and then attended a camp at Happy Valley in June.
"I just got a great feel up there," said Massaro, who also had Georgia Tech and Syracuse on his short list. "I liked all the coaches. [Defensive line coach] Larry Johnson is a great teacher."
Penn State linebackers coach Ron Vanderlinden was Massaro's recruiter. Massaro planned on calling Vanderlinden with the good news, but went to the big guy instead.
"He's a great guy. I can't wait to play for him," said Massaro, dispelling the myth that recruits shy away from Penn State out of fear that Paterno may retire soon.
A three-star prospect, according to the recruiting Web site scout.com, Massaro is explosive at the end position. Last year, as a junior, he recorded 53 tackles (14 for loss) and five sacks while earning second-team Class AAA all-state honors.
Massaro gives the Lions nine commitments from the Class of 2008.
