'10 PA WR Andrew Carswell (Pittsburgh Verbal)

'10 PA WR Andrew Carswell

Wide Receiver
McKees Rocks (PA) Sto Rox

Ht: 6-foot-4
Wt: 200 lbs
Class: 2010 (High School)

Keystone Recruiting

8/4

Quote:
The second is the main target for Jones, 6’4 1/2” 200 pound wide receiver ANDREW CARSWELL.

“He has good speed and the excellent size, obviously,” says Ruscitto, “but his main asset is his football smarts. He really knows how to play the game. A lot of players have all the physical talent, but they don’t know how to play. That’s not the case with Andrew.”

None of the rising juniors can receive written offers until September, but Jones and Carswell already have verbal offers from Pitt, where they both excelled at a recent summer camp, and Jones also has an offer from Cincinnati. There will be many more for both.

Jones claims to be wide open and when asked what he’s looking for in a college, he only says, “Education and where I can play the fastest.”

Jones and Carswell are friends and that also may come into play, according to Jones, who says, “Andrew and I are definitely going to play together in college.”

Beaver Falls' coming out party - Pittsburgh Tribune-Review

Quote:
Pitt makes offers

Pitt has made offers to four high school juniors in its continuing quest to lock down the Western Pennsylvania football market.

The players are: Sto-Rox quarterback Paul Jones and wide receiver Andrew Carswell, Fox Chapel offensive lineman Miles Dieffenbach, 6-4, 275, and Clairton wide receiver Kevin Weatherspoon.

Jones has completed 39 of 57 passes for 708 yards and eight touchdowns in three games for Sto-Rox (3-0). Weatherspoon scored on a 10-yard reception and 54-yard punt return in a 48-6 victory Friday against Frazier.

11. Andrew Carswell, Sto-Rox HS (McKees Rocks) WR- Big 6'4" 200 pound receiver with great hands. Not a blazer, but he has good speed and athletic ability. Great instincts and knowledge of the position. Early offers from Pitt, N.C. State, and Duke but could really impress over the spring and summer camp circuit.

Carswell is a solid prospect - likely mid-to-high three-star.

If we had around 20 scholarships, he'd have a good chance of being offered. As it is, we'd have to miss out on some of our top targets first.

Notre Dame invades Florida for top OT - ESPN

Quote:
he played outside linebacker. The 6-4, 210-pound Carswell has started at wide receiver and outside linebacker the past two seasons.

After catching 30 passes during his sophomore season, Carswell caught 40 more passes his junior season for 600 yards and six touchdowns. He also made 56 tackles and intercepted three passes.

"My recent offers have been more for wide receiver," Carswell said. "I'm getting recruited as an athlete, wide receiver or linebacker."

Carswell has scholarship offers from Pitt, Wisconsin, Stanford, Duke, North Carolina State, Boston College and Maryland.

"I'm mostly looking at schools that have offered me," Carswell said. "My favorite team is the Florida Gators, but I haven't heard from them yet."

Scout.com: Pitt Still In Hunt For Carswell

4/13

By Dale Grdnic. Claims offers from Pittsburgh, Boston College, Maryland, Michigan, North Carolina State, and Wisconsin. Andrew says he doesn't have a PSU offer but if he did PSU would be considered...talks about Pitt and his contact with coach Gattuso. Would like to make a commitment prior to his senior year but acknowledges it may not happen.

Could it be he is waiting on PSU? If he doesn't make the committment prior, I think this is the case.

Doesn't hold a Michigan offer.

Not knowing anything about him and just looking at what's obvious... not a lot of "highly recruited" guys playing WR at PSU right now - Powell's an impressive 'athlete'... Justin Brown has some hype... some good game experience w/ Brackett and Zug... otherwise the rest have a lot to prove. Stills is a west coast "cross your fingers but don't hold your breath" scenario... this fella is a "4 star" teammate with QB Jones - so there's gotta be some chemistry (unless one dude stole the other's girlfriend or something)... said he's being recruited generally as an "athlete" by a lot of schools so he's likely to be pretty versatile... leaves me wondering why not an offer?... sold on Coxson? Kenney?... cause he's spelling out that he would like one from us... not that it = definitive...

It's a deep class in PA this year, and they took a big class last year. Can't offer everyone. PSU is looking good at WR and LB for the '10 class.

Well that's good news all in all... just thought that this Carswell fellow looked like he was part of the "looking good PSU WR market" as well. (why did we bring in 17 WR's last year anyway? - aside from the obvious answer we were losing 17 as well)... I don't know anything at all about the individuals or their styles / types and how they'd fit w/ PSU... things just seemed to add up to an offer in my slowly processing head...

There is no point in offering Carswell right now. It could possibly look to PJ/family and/or Carswell/family that we are just trying to get PJ to reaffirm his commitment. There is no shame in not holding an offer in April, the '09 class hasn't even arrived on campus and the B-W game (many visitors) has yet to even occur.

The staff obviously thinks he is a tier below IL WR Kyle Prater, CA WR Kenny Stills, MD WR Adrian Coxson, PA WR Alex Kenney, VA WR Justin Hunter (maybe? not 100% sure he has a verbal/written offer), and whoever else I'm forgetting. If Andrew is serious in his pursuit of a PSU offer and has legitimate interest in the program he'll attempt to make the spring game or visit for a spring practice, as well as attend PSU Nike camp so there is more out there on him (for every coaching staff).

There are rumors of 2-3 commits at/around the time of the B-W game, let us wait and see if that comes to fruition and who the 2-3 verbals are, that could be telling as far as whether he'd have a chance at an offer. Also have to see if a target or two drops off the board for us at WR or if he could be considered a flex-TE option.

Agree with a bunch of the stuff you are saying. There is NO REASON to offer him now. An offer to him now looks fishy relative to trying to lock up Jones' verbal.

PSU is only taking two or three WRs. To me Prater is a no go, a pipe dream and is off the board to me (despite him not verballing to anyone). I doubt he visits.

We get one of our WR verbals at the B&W Game and that doesn't include PSU sitting well with Coxson and possibly Stills.

Notice you've changed your tune re: Stills, UB. What gives?
