By M Alkire. Kuntz has a top 2 of Penn State and UConn and plans to announce sometime around the 4th of July. If Notre Dame were to offer they would be a favorite, as he says he grew up a big Irish fan.

He was dreaming if he thought ND was offering. Hope he goes to UConn and doesn't screw PSU's chances with Justin Brown.

Well, he's probably PSU-bound.
I don't think he affects Brown at all, btw.

I'm not sure they do. This is how Penn State used to get in trouble when they would fill up classes early, see a kid who is more athlete than football player and throw a ship at him early. Congratulations to him for being able to commit to Penn State but he's got to get rid of that ND love, immediately! I doubt Christian is a great route runner playing in a wing-T, but at 6'4 with sub 4.5 speed and the ability to play WR, LB or FS I can understand why the staff would take a chance and try to get an in-state athlete at WR. We're not exactly killing it right now with skill position players. I'll just hope it works out and give the kid the benefit of the doubt, and pray he proves ND and everyone else wrong and works his ass of because of it.

This class as far as skill positions is all over the map. There were three four needs in this class - DB and OL for the most part, have been satisfied. QB and WR is another story. We have Felder who shows promise, but that is it. PSU needs Justin Brown, Tate Forcier and Tavon Austin in the worst way. If they don't get the first two, this class is an utter failure.
Kids like Kuntz, Figuerora, Drake, SOA are kids that would have still been out there in November. There was no reason to offer any of them this early. Staff seems to be in this "let's fill the class before the season mode" regardless if a kid has PSU talent ot not.

I agree to an extent, but at the same time I think there were a few reasons they offered:
Kuntz: Pathetic skill position recruiting, camp performance, in-state athlete.
Figueroa: Edison. Coach LJ SR. has ties to Edison and is well known in Alexandria, VA. Probably got a heads up from someone that this kid was D1 material, I'll give a pass on star rankings and such seeing as how this kid has lived in Panama, Germany, Puerto Rico, Belgium and twice in Virginia. The size (6'4 265-270) is there and from what I hear he has pretty good feet.
Drake: Staff was probably hoping for some luck with Je'Ron, wanted an emergency dual-threat in-state QB/ATH. They have been recruiting Curtis since he was a sophomore so this offer doesn't surprise me as much as Kuntz & Figueroa.
SOA: Absolutely could have waited, but they probably figured why wait. Kid is athletic, hits hard, runs track but has stone hands. He'll be a good run supporting safety that can cover at Penn State though which is more than can be said for some of our past safeties. Plus he is from JFK and 3 of his former teammates are at Penn State. I like this offer more than Willis but I think both of them are project safeties at this point, there good kids though and seem like hard workers with great personalities. Luckily we have Scirrotto, Lynn & Powell so adding some depth/athletes to the secondary doesn't bother me as much. I know people don't like the Stephon Morris offer or don't think he will excel in the Big Ten at his size but I absolutely love the offer and like this kids swagger. He'll be a good one who can play the run as well as the pass and help some as a KR if need be.
We ABSOLUTELY need Justin Brown & Tate Forcier, both are necessities. Tate Forcier can be exchanged for Morgan Newton or Kevin Newsome but we need 1 of those 3 QBs and if we fail and that leads to us failing to acquire Justin Brown this class will be an offensive disaster with the exception of the offensive lineman, RB & Brandon Felder.

Time for PSU people to understand Morgan Newton isn't going to be a member of this class. He has little interest in PSU. It's Forcier or bust as far as capable QBs. I will believe the Newsome rumors when he decommitts.

Trinity's Kuntz joins Penn State class - The Sports Blog with The Patriot-News
Quote:
Trinity's Christian Kuntz went to Mike Walker's graduation party and chatted up the former Shamrock basketball star on everything Penn State had to offer.
It won't be too long before Kuntz has his own experiences after he committed to Penn State on Friday morning.
Kuntz, a 6-foot-4, 195-pound wide receiver prospect, chose the Nittany Lions over Connecticut, Akron, James Madison and Buffalo, all of which offered scholarships.
Virginia and Pitt were about to offer, Kuntz said.
"I liked the coaches, and I think it's an up-and coming program," he said, adding that "I really do believe better days for Penn State are coming."

Talks about the freak injury he sustained this summer and how he has been preparing for his senior season. Will likely be at PSU for the game against Coastal Carolina and has kept in constant contact with the staff.

Trinity star Kuntz out for season - The Sports Blog with The Patriot-News

Trinity star Christian Kuntz tore his MCL in this game against Middletown and is out for at least the regular season and most likely the entire season.

Trinity football star Christian Kuntz, a part of the 2009 Penn State recruiting class, suffered a torn MCL Saturday afternoon in the Shamrocks' 31-14 victory at Middletown.
He is definitely out for the regular season and most likely done for the year, according to Trinity football coach Jeff Boger.
Kuntz injured his left knee following a 46-yard run in the third quarter. The senior, who also plays basketball and is a state-caliber track athlete, was a two-way starter for the 6-1 Shamrocks.
This season Kuntz led Trinity in rushing with 727 yards and four touchdowns. He averaged 10.1 yards per carry. Kuntz also had 13 grabs for 135 yards and was a solid safety thanks to his combination of speed and athleticism.
