Wilson, whom UT's coaching staff is evaluating, has strong ties to UT. His father, James Wilson, was a Vol defensive end from 1989 to 1993 and a captain during his senior season.
"There's something about Tennessee, the vibe they have," said Tyrel Wilson, who lived in Tennessee for much of his childhood before moving to Virginia. "It makes my heart start pumping when I hear 'Rocky Top'."
James Wilson said his son won't make a decision until after his senior season and is considering several options.
"I would love for him to be involved there," the elder Wilson said of UT. "What dad wouldn't be proud?"

Wilson in no rush for college limelight -- Basketball, Boo Williams, Virginia Tech -- dailypress.com

Maybe Hampton High's Tyrel Wilson will have a better idea of where he stands with his top two schools — Tennessee and Virginia Tech — after the summer.
For now, he's in no rush to make a college decision. He plans to enjoy his senior year and vows not to get too stressed out with the recruiting process.
Having a good time in his senior year shouldn't be a problem. Hampton should be a state championship contender in football next season. Not getting a little frazzled over his recruitment? Good luck with that, dude.
Wilson, a 6-foot-3, 215-pound defensive end for the Crabbers, is gaining popularity in recruiting circles because of his perceived versatility. He's also the most sought-after uncommitted football recruit on the Peninsula.
"I'm taking my time and just letting everything ride out," said Wilson, who added he has scholarship offers from Tech, Virginia, Tennessee, North Carolina and Penn State. "I mean, you only get one senior year of high school. I'm not in any rush. I don't think any of my scholarships are going away. I don't want to commit to one school and then change my mind."
Wilson will attend camps this summer at Tech and Tennessee. The Volunteers may have a slight advantage, considering Wilson's father, James, played on the defensive line at Hampton and Tennessee in the late 1980s. When James left Tennessee, he was third on the Volunteers' all-time sacks list behind Bethel High graduate Todd Kelly and the late Reggie White.
Could Tyrel follow in dad's footsteps as a pass-rushing force? That may depend on which position he winds up at in college. He said Tech likes him as a linebacker, and Tennessee sees him a "universal threat" at end or linebacker.
Tyrel, who said his grade-point average is between 2.6 and 2.8, said a lot of college coaches have told him they want to see if he eventually matures to 230 or 240 pounds. If so, Tyrel could stay at end. If not, he will probably move to a linebacker position.
