VT? Didn't Given's uncle or cousin play there? Defensive oriented team, excellent DC. D. Hall, Jimmy Williams, Brandon Flowers, Macho Harris...
I don't know, I think that D'Anton Lynn (true freshman) will get PT this season as nickel, CB or at S, AJ Wallace & Tony Davis will be infinitely better than Justin King & Lydell Sargaent at CB and this season will be better than last year. Besides, we'll still have Lydell but I just think that AJ & Tony will start at CB and unless there is an injury Lydell isn't going to be one of the two starting CBs.
I believe Eric Shrive is 110% Penn State and Darrell Givens is 85% Penn State while Derrick Thomas is probably 65% because of his mothers concerns and other schools staying on him. IMHO I think it will play out to where we keep Shrive/Givens but Thomas bolts whie H.S. teammate Stephon Morris doesn't because his father and Stephon truly love Penn State.

I've heard the Shrive rumor too.
Something's up in Maryland/DC right now. Between the Thomas comments, Austin, and what that anonymous coach (Forestville?) said last week. I don't have any more specifics than that, but I'm trying to get to the bottom of it by asking a few Maryland fans that I trust.

Thanks, GoRU, for posting this link in the Derrick Thomas thread. If he's looking around, he's doing a pretty good job of hiding it.
Outside the lines changing minds?

From those already committed, the allegations have little to no affect.
"Of course if you have a lot of students and players at one school getting into trouble it's going to make that school look bad, but you can't necessarily say that the school is a bad place. It just shows that those people chose to make the wrong decision, Givens said. "It's not really been a big deal to me. Once you're in college you're an adult. You're a grown female or male and you're old enough to make your own decisions. If you choose to make the wrong decision, that's on you.

Illinois can make all the heavy play on Shrive they want ... the Illini burned a huge bridge when he verballed to PSU, one that can't be repaired. Shrive isn't going anywhere else.
As for the Maryland kids ... Thomas didn't make the comments, his mother did. Sounds like the Maryland media is working on this story a little to much for Friedgen. Kids and parents have known the troubles that several players have gotten into ... so what's different know? As for the Forrestville coach - its all about ALE and he has a huge grudge with him and the way he handled his verbal announcement. If said kid would have stuck with Maryland and done the same thing ... nothing would have been said.

I did not see where this had turned into Shrive debate but if there are Illinois fans out there actually suggesting that Shrive could waiver than they are getting some HORRENDOUS info. With what followed Eric Shrive committing to Penn State, I doubt the Illinois staff would even have the balls to try and contact Eric much less make a heavy play for him.
It's fair to assume that they won't be waiting for any Christmas Card's from the Shrive camp, I bet Zook is happy he bothered speaking at West Scranton High. THEEEE Ultimate Used Car SALESMAN! He & Tommy Bowden should get together and compare young men's physique's if they don't already, fawning over 17-18-19 year olds like they are little insecure school girls...LMFAO. I'm 110% positive that Eric Shrive will sign on the dotted line for the Nittany Lions.
I'm impressed with how he has handled his commitment and the fact that he has made the trip to Penn State numerous times since committing. I don't live in Scranton but it is only an hour or so away and from what I hear it isn't uncommon to see Eric decked out in Penn State gear (shorts, shirts, hats, the works!). Hopefully he will be a big component in swaying Tate Forcier during the night game @ Beaver Stadium against Illinois while both visit, as well as the Penn State team on the field crushing the Illini. This has "circled game" written all over it, especially if I'm Daryll Clark. If this game is even close, one or more important players (QB, WR, RB, OT) got seriously injured in one of the three previous games, OR Josh Hull is playing MLB instead of Chris Colasanti along with Rubin at S which would just KILL me; otherwise I expect something like 37-16, 38-20 and the game over by the third quarter.

The Illini fans also say Fellows just switched to Ohio State to get the Ohio people off his back, and that he is switching back to Illinois right before signing day. Oh yeah, and that he and Hall have been in talks about this all along.

I sure hope those rumors about an investigation into Illinois come true. I would absolutely love for those dolts to finally understand who their coach REALLY is.

ESPN - Kirkpatrick leads class of big, fast CBs - Football Recruiting
Quote:
|
As a whole, this '09 class is a feisty, physical group of corners who take pride in stepping up hard to defend the perimeter run or the pass. Our top seven prospects, Dre Kirkpatrick (Gadsden, Ala.), Darius Winston (Helena, Ark./West Helena), Prince Kent (Norcross, Ga.), Darrell Givens (Indian Head, Md./Lackey), C.J. Barnett (Clayton, Ohio/Northmont), Janzen Jackson (Lake Charles, La./Barbe) and Marcus Davis (League City, Texas/Clear Creek), claim average measurables of approximately 6-foot-1 and 180 pounds. Collectively, they have the physical demeanor needed to play aggressively at the next level and, more importantly, the natural size to back it up.

In terms of a total football player at the position, it's hard to find a more savvy, more instinctive and more athletic corner than Givens, ESPN's No. 4-rated prospect. The Penn State pledge needs some technique refinement but flashes the skills and ability to be effective in a variety of different schemes and defenses. Givens can press, mirror in off-man or break with great burst undercutting routes. The Maryland native's ability to also get over the trash quickly and find the football on run support make him one of the more well-rounded corners of this class.
