By Georgescu...talks about the combines he has been to this spring...has visited Rutgers, Penn State, Pitt, Temple, UCONN and Mayland and talks about the fact Rutgers has not offered despite his interest and offers from the likes of Penn State, Wisconsin, Auburn, Colorado and others.

"Maryland always seem to go to bowl games," safety Abdul Smith said. "And they need defensive backs, so it would be a good opportunity to play early." Another plus for the Terps is their location. Smith attends boarding school in Pennsylvania, but lives in New Jersey with his dad. His mom, however, lives in North Carolina. "Maryland is pretty much right in between my mom and my dad..."

Maryland goes to bowl games because there are too many of them. The bowl games Maryland go to are so insignificant that no one really cares the outcome. If Abdul Smith wants to go to a program that will continue to flounder and finish 6-6 at best, more power to him.

heh . . . I saw that quote and was thinking "yeah, seems like they always go to bowl games for the past two years anyway" because they missed bowls the 2 seasons before that. And at first I thought they missed a bowl last season when I saw they finished with a losing record, but that's because 6-6 got them to a bowl which they lost.

Something tells me Ralph is a bit paranoid

I can't tell if Abdul Smith truly wants a Rutgers offer so he can commit on the spot or if he is just pissed that they haven't come forward with one, but even with PT I can't see Abdul Smith committing to MD.

Well, PSU doesn't offer too many kids with subpar grades, so I doubt its academics. Spare the hint that Rutgers doesn't offer questionable students. I know that is false.

Again, PSU is one school that rarely offers a kid if he is deficient on grades. PSU has only placed two in prep school in like the last decade ... all the others qualified. PSU isn't an SEC school by any standards. There are several right now waiting on test score results before PSU offers, one in your state that appears to be ready to pull the trigger once his test score arrives and an offer comes.

One other factor is that Perkiomen IS a prep school, so having grade issues at a school with demanding academics like that doesn't mean he's a hopeless case like a kid having the same grades at some crappy, low rent public school. Those prep schools have pretty rigorous admissions standards, so he wouldn't be there if he was stupid; he could very well have some grade issues but great test scores.

From the Rutgers site. Abdul says that he got the Rutgers offer he wanted, and that they are near the top. He will narrow things down at the end of this month.

It was just a guess on my point. Looks like he finally got an offer.

I don't really care about Kersey since he isn't interested, but the WVU side seems confident too. I honestly think both can do better. I thought he might pick us by default, and he is visiting again this weekend, but I wonder if a couple recent WR offers have meant the staff is close to giving up on him.

Video Interview: Abdul Smith By Matei Georgescu

Posted Jun 25, 2008

Abdul Smith, by way of Perkiomen School in Pennsburg, PA, is one of the top athletes on the east coast. Smith's versatility is one of his more impressive traits - indeed, it was his ability to showcase his skills as a CB that earned him a Rutgers offer. SOR had the opportunity to catch up with Abdul and his father, Mr. Smith, after the conclusion of their single day at the RU camp.
