News on Austin, kind of: D.J. Adams will pick Maryland soon. Everything I've read says that his other finalists haven't given him committable offers. Obviously you still take him if you have Adams/Porzel, but it seems like a concession to me that he won't stay home if Maryland is bringing in similar players.

At the moment, the biggest name on PSU's radar is Forcier, but there is hope that an already committed prospect may reconsider...
FWIW, I don't like banking on that kind of situation. It very rarely pans out...although we did get two QB's that way in the last 5 years.

Gibbon has recieved 11 d1 offers since the nike camp,I know this kid watched him play,PSU missed the boat which is a shame since he gave them first shot!he is the number 1 qb prospect in Canada, been playing 11 years, has 11 loses, 7 came his first year.he's going to come in under the radar and surprise a lot of people.

No offense, but he didn't impress many observers at the two camps he's been to.
Think of it this way...PSU is absolutely desperate for QB's, yet he didn't get an offer.

Name the 11 offers please. Kid had not one, but two chances to earn an offer, but didn't. I'm sure there was one out there for him to earn.

Did this come from someone friendly with LJ, or maybe Arnett's coach?

"I'm sure a lot of coaches got that [video] saved," said one local coach who has dealt with Penn State and other top college programs recently. "It will be all over the place. It will be used, no question."

A couple other Maryland updates: Kerr not reopening recruiting after he preps, Porzel might bring Hawkins to MD with him (PSU in top 7, not Michigan), and Ankrah is delaying a decision. That could be good news for PSU, if he has time to get his grades up.

I'd be willing to bet that they went straight to Forrestville's HC (SP?)...that HC/staff is pro-MD and very friendly with THE FRIDGE, and VERY anti-Penn State after the whole Antonio Logan-El charade. They realize that the MD door nearly slammed shut on them with the way Logan-El dissed MD and with the way things ended for him at Penn State I'm sure the HC felt embarrassed with Logan El's announcement and than pissed about how things went down.
There is no doubt in my mind that Barr went right too them, especially considering MD got D. Arnett committed and he had eliminated Penn State prior to choosing MD. LJ has never really had much of a relationship with them that I can tell, he works most of his magic in PG and has ridiculously strong ties because of his personal success as a H.S. head coach at McDonough High. 6x coach of the year and his team had a ridiculous streak of like 10 or 11 years (may be wrong on this) where they made the state playoff's. One of the most successful prep coaches in MD, LJ is very well respected in MD and a stupid OTL report where they offer no perspective and don't even bother to mention that every single felony charge was dropped is absolutely worthless to any prospect that actually checks Penn State out for himself.
Sensationalism at it's best, they re-enact the apartment fight with two kids that look like retards and interview one of the father's saying he isn't satisfied with the end results; well the DA said the "VICTIMS" were happy with the end result after he got done offering plea bargains to nearly everyone, and there was restitution ordered as well for a broken laptop. OTL doesn't mention any of this and makes it appear as if the players got off without getting in trouble, and the #s they used included all the felony charges that were thrown out...each and every single one of them.
No mention of that 0% success rate, while they throw in the words RAPE with regard to Austin Scott for horror. Conveniently forgot to mention he past/prior accusations by the women (2 different times) and the dismissal/withdrawal of those charges by the DA because he jumped the gun for the freaking third or fourth time as of the past year. I fu***** hate ESPN!

ESPN - Big Ten and Notre Dame team recruiting needs for the Class of 2009 - Football Recruiting
Quote:
Penn State
Wide receiver
Penn State should have one of the most dangerous receiving corps in the nation this year. Problem is starters Derrick Williams, Deon Butler and Jordan Norwood are all seniors. In addition, three juniors provide depth and A.J. Price out of South Lakes High School in Virginia is the only true freshman receiver of note on the roster.
Offensive tackle
Penn State signed De'On'tae Pannell out of Groves High School in Michigan last year but it needs to continue to get younger here. How come? Gerald Cadogan is a senior and Dennis Landolt is a junior. In addition, reserves Nerraw McCormack and Ako Poti are both seniors.
Cornerback
Starters Lydell Sargeant and Tony Davis are seniors and Nickel back A.J. Wallace is a junior. Behind these three is some promising young talent waiting in the wings but the Nittany Lions failed to sign any true freshmen corners of note this past year. With that in mind look for Penn State to aggressively target corners during the recruiting process.

Granted, we could have used one more CB, but D'Anton Lynn will play and play early this year. A little off the mark on their comments there.

Staff better pray that we end up with Kevin Newsome. Mind games, it never ceases to amaze me and Joe never stops playing them...always with the damn mind games...

I'm doing some reading on the class of 2010 right now. Did PSU offer Kevin's brother Keevon Newsome?

Not that I'm aware of. PSU will usually only verbally offer a small number of juniors, so my guess is no since there are a few in Pa. that will get them.

Rivals.com Football Recruiting - Rivals100 safeties set to switch?

Penn State already has five defensive back commitments, but that hasn't stopped the Nittany Lions from inquiring about two top committed d-backs. Word has it that Penn State is making a push for Boston College commitment Jim Noel, from Everett (Mass.) High, and Rutgers commitment Gerald Hodges, from Paulsboro (N.J.) High. Both seem likely to stick with their commitments, but it's interesting the Nittany Lions still are shopping for defensive backs.

Speaking of Penn State, athlete Devon Smith, from Waldorf (Md.) Westlake, is expected to commit when he finally makes his official visit to State College. It is supposed to be the weekend of Sept. 26 when Penn State plays host to Illinois. Smith (5-7/140) is tight with current Penn State commitments Derrick Thomas and Stephon Morris, and they played together at one time at Greenbelt (Md.) Eleanor Roosevelt. Thomas was considering de-committing and heading to Maryland, but he has since solidified his commitment to the Nittany Lions.

Arguably nobody does a whiteout better than Penn State. In primetime Saturday night, the Nittany Lions fans held their whiteout, and the Penn State football team held up its end with a 38-24 victory over Illinois.
An impressive group of recruits were on hand to see the win, the whiteout and everything associated with Penn State's fifth straight victory.
