Recruiting races for top prospects being won by some surprising programs - ESPN
Quote:
Gators coming hard
Under Armour All-American Corey Brown (Springfield, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) is a versatile prospect who could play running back, receiver or both in college, so it's no surprise that Florida is a team that is highly interested in the speedy prospect.
Brown says the Gators and Urban Meyer currently are recruiting him the hardest. While he did not come out and name a leader, you get the feeling that he is very high on the defending national champions.
"I talk to coach Meyer a lot," Brown said. "They are by far recruiting me the hardest right now. I just like everything about Florida. I like the lifestyle, the weather, and they have great academics."
Brown added that he likes the academics at Penn State and believes he could play early should he stay in state and head to Happy Valley. He has more than 30 total scholarship offers and plans to narrow his list to five to 10 schools in the next couple of weeks.
Assistant coaches Steve Addazio of Florida, Sal Sunseri of Alabama and G.A. Mangus of South Carolina were at Cardinal O'Hara checking up on Brown on Wednesday as part of the spring evaluation process.

Corey Brown - College Football Recruiting 2010 - ESPN
- Under Armour All-American Corey Brown names top ten (May28)
Quote:
- ESPNU 150 Watch List talent Corey Brown gave his new top ten to affiliate Web site CrimsonConfidential.com.
Alabama, Florida, Ohio State, Penn State, West Virginia, Rutgers, Pitt, Miami, Florida State and Clemson made the cut.
Brown's high school coach, Danny Algeo, said, "They're all good schools. He's not going to make a bad choice with any of them. We've always though he was a special player, and the fact that he's in the Northeast and so many schools in the South are recruiting him says something about the kid."
"We're looking for a school that cares about him as a person as much as it does a player - a school that will help him take care of business and graduate," the coach said. "That's one of the things we were looking at this morning - graduation rates."
Brown's holding 30 to 40 scholarship offers including programs not in his top ten including South Carolina, Georgia, Illinois, Michigan State, Colorado, Notre Dame and Tennessee.

Class of 2010
Pennsylvania’s Top Seniors
By Chris Dokish
For those of you who follow our yearly rankings, you may have noticed that the Top 50 has become the Top 25. The reason for this is because of the lack of depth in the state. It's become more difficult to find 50 prospects yearly that are at a high-major level. For that reason, we have decided to just report on the very best the state has to offer.
While the depth is not what it used to be in a state that has seen its population plunge over the last few decades, there is still some excellent talent out there. You may notice, however, that there are really only two prospects who received attention from the high level programs around the country. This is a significant drop from past seasons.
Lastly, as we always try to do, we do our best to leave out "scout talk," hyperbole and biases. We try to speak as bluntly, and accurately, as possible, while still remembering that these are high school kids we're talking about.

2. Corey Brown, Cardinal O'Hara HS (Springfield) WR/RB- An excellent athlete with legitimate speed in the 4.4s. At 6'1" and 170 pounds, he needs to add muscle, especially if he ends up at running back. Exploded onto the scene as a sophomore, but as a junior a sprained knee in the fourth game of the season cost him the majority of the year. Now he's healthy again and has been running track, where he is one of the best sprinters in the state. Brown has very good hands, either out of the backfield or as a wide receiver. He’s also an excellent kick and punt returner. He has over 30 offers, including Penn State, Pitt, Florida, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Alabama, Michigan, Rutgers, Florida State, Tennessee, West Virginia and UCLA. Florida may be the team to beat. Bottom line- He has to prove he can stay healthy this year, and if he can, his speed and game breaking ability could go a long way at the next level.

I was thinking so, but he has been leaning towards OSU over the past month, and RU has been going harder after other guys. Wonder if Savage moving up the depth chart helps any. There was always the school of thought that they were packaged together.

IMO, Rutgers would be a better fit from an offensive perspective.

The best fit for him is probably a spread team. He's a slot receiver most likely. Definitely want him as far as taking another receiver goes though.
