Buie to follow brother Battle? -

2/11
Quote:
By Jeff Rice, NN Senior Writer
jrice@nittanynetwork.com
Feb. 11, 2009

Taran Buie played one season at Albany’s Bishop Maginn High School alongside his older brother, Talor Battle.

“I think we played pretty good together, and we complemented each other with two different styles of play,” Buie said. “It made my job a little easier being a freshman playing with him. Everybody was just keying on him.”

Defenses are still keying on Battle, who is now a sophomore at Penn State and the Big Ten’s scoring leader. And Buie is getting plenty of attention at Maginn – from both opponents and some high-major colleges.

And there’s a decent chance the two could once again be in the same lineup.

Battle's brother is prime target - Basketball Jones with The Patriot-News - PennLive.com

Quote:
(EXCERPT) According to Battle, who would be a senior by the time Buie could play with him as a freshman, the Lions are finalists for Buie along with the Yellow Jackets, the Terrapins and Notre Dame which is not exactly burning it up the last month, either.

Battle finally gets to play at the Garden - AltoonaMirror.com | News, Sports, Jobs, Community Information - The Altoona Mirror

Quote:
The NIT semifinal matchup Tuesday night against Notre Dame will be played on one of the sport's best-known arenas, against another big-name school with a national following better known for its football team.

About 50 to 75 of Battle's family and friends are planning to be there, many of them making the 2-hour drive from Albany down the New York State Thruway.

The fan club will include at least one of Battle's seven siblings - younger brother, Taran Buie, a highly rated recruit from Battle's alma mater, Bishop Maginn High School. Battle said both Penn State and Notre Dame are on his brother's list of possible college destinations.

Penn State’s Top Recruiter Is a Guard - The Quad Blog - NYTimes.com

Quote:
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — Talor Battle’s effort to change the basketball culture in Happy Valley starts at home.

Battle, a sophomore point guard for Penn State, has helped the Nittany Lions to a 25-win season and a berth in the National Invitation Tournament Final Four. Now he’s working on helping them land some fresh talent.

Battle’s younger brother Taran Buie, a junior at Bishop Maginn High School in Albany, is considered one of the top basketball prospects in his class. He has five programs at the top of his list: Penn State, Georgia Tech, Maryland, Notre Dame and Marquette. (Penn State and Notre Dame play on Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden.)

“Hopefully he comes in and some of his A.A.U. teammates come in,” Battle said. “And then I’ve started something.”

its unbelievable the power this kid has over the future of our bball program. If we somehow swayed this kid towards penn state we could be entering into a new era of Penn State Basketball.

It is true. The addition of Taran Buie would be special. If Buie came, Battle, Babb, Frazier, and Buie at both guard spots when Battle is a senior could really be something...REALLY. We've still got Battle for two more seasons, Chris Babb is a true freshman right now, and Tim Frazier is the likely/probable successor to Talor at point.

With guys like Andrew Jones for two more seasons, David Jackson, Jeff Brooks (hasn't put it together - but 4* - nearly Mr. Basketball in Kentucky, has the skill/frame to help out), Andrew Ott...pretty nice nucleus right there.

Ed has done a good job, and Lewis Preston has improved our big guys...I think that is pretty evident even if only in one season. Like KK said, we need a few more Battle's...if we get Buie, I truly believe the program will have turned the corner.

David Jackson and Brooks still leave me hungry. There is lots of room for improvement for both. Ott is a non factor IMO.

well i believe we can still be as good next year in bball if not better than last year pringle and cornley were very intricate parts but we have very young and decent depth. every time i think of the possibility of buie joining our roster i salivate a little just imagining the infinate capabilities he has to add to our program

A hour after the game, Battle's half-brother, Taran Buie, a hotly recruited 6-2 junior guard who many claim is even better, hopped aboard the PSU team bus, shook the coaches' hands and announced to wild applause his commitment to State beginning with the 2010-11 school year. Buie, the son of Murphy and former Harrisburg High great Dan Buie, should be able to play with his brother for one season.

June, 2008: Taran is a skilled and athletic combo guard. More of a 2 now, he is a very adept scorer. He is the brother of Penn State's Taylor Battle. Taran is an excellent slasher and a good shooter from 20 feet and in. He can score standing still and off the bounce. He is a good athlete that can dunk on an unsuspecting opponent. He is also a good defender that is very competitive. Taran is a top 40 player in the 2010 class nationally.
