Chandler's Jordan suffers burns

Quote:

The Arizona Republic
Oct. 6, 2007 09:31 PM

Chandler High School's Dion Jordan, The Republic's All-Arizona tight end in 2006 who as a senior is perhaps the state's top college football prospect this season, was hospitalized Saturday with third-degree burns to his arms and legs after an accident at a teammate's house.

Chandler coach Jim Ewan said that early Saturday afternoon, after the team's morning practice, the 6-foot-6, 215-pound Jordan and a few teammates were attempting to siphon gasoline from a vehicle parked in the garage when a spark from a vacuum caused what Ewan said was "a mini-explosion."

Ewan said Jordan was evacuated by helicopter to Maricopa County Hospital in Phoenix, where he was alert on Saturday night. It is estimated Jordan will be hospitalized for about a month, Ewan said, and will begin rehabilitation at that time.

The burns, Ewan said, run from Jordan's shoulders down to his hands and fingertips, and from his knees to his toes.

"He was moving his fingers and toes," Ewan said. "His head and the torso were OK. He is extremely lucky.

"This puts everything in perspective. You don't worry about football when these types of things happen."

Jordan had caught six passes for 124 yards and a touchdown in Chandler's 14-13 Class 5A Division I Fiesta Region win over Gilbert Highland on Friday night.

Colleges from across the country have been in contact with Jordan, who has expressed an interest in Oregon, California and Oregon State.

"Oregon has a strong lead," Dion Jordan said. Jordan, Scout.com's No. 10 tight end, visited Eugene on Dec. 15. "It was a real good visit," he said. "It was a lot of fun. I really liked the city and just being able to hang out with the players. The area there isn't too fast and it's not too slow, but it's different from Arizona, which is nice. The campus at Oregon is also a really good size..."

Dion Jordan Picks Oregon - OregonLive.com: Ducks by Bob Rickert

Not a huge surprise in recruiting circles, but Dion Jordan has picked the Ducks He's a 6' 6', 215lb. wideout from Chandler, AZ. Yep, the Ducks and Coach Pflugrad stole one from the Sun Devils' backyard.

The obvious comparison to a current Duck is Jaison Williams. But if you watch him a little closer there are some differences. I think Williams has more speed but I think Jordan's farther along as a freshman than Williams was in route running and some other things like blocking.

Huge pickup for the Duck offense and Chip Kelly. Huge. Jordan's got enough talent to come in and play immediately. Something Oregon's going to always need at the wideout spot with the number of guys they use and the possibility of injuries.
