Clemson Among Favorites Of Florida Back
By Phil Kornblut
RB Carlos Hyde (6-0 230) of Naples, FL says Clemson is in his favorite five right now along with Florida State, Ohio State, Miami and Wisconsin. "I like their running backs," Hyde said of the Tigers. "Coach (Andre) Powell is telling me they need a power back." Hyde said he's basically a power runner who rushed for 1000 yards and 12 touchdowns last season. He also has offers from Florida State, Ohio State, Miami, South Florida, Wisconsin, Louisville, NC State and Pittsburgh. He's also drawing interest from Florida and LSU. Hyde has been to Miami for a spring practice and will try to visit Ohio State for their spring game.

Evaluation
Hyde is a big power-back with deceptive fluidity between the tackles. He is tall with great thickness and carries his weight well. Comes across as strictly a north-south runner when you look at his measurables and first see him in stance, but he will surprise you with good quickness. Hits the line with good initial speed, power and lean but can make defenders miss through the hole with great suddenness and shiftiness for a 230-pound back. Shows some cutback ability and sharp plant and go between the tackles. Squares up quickly out of his cuts and reaches top speed quickly. Can lower the shoulder as well and runs with good body-tilt on initial contact. Finishes runs and consistently bounces out of the pile. Difficult to wrap up at the high school level with his superior lower- body strength, thickness and leg drive. Stays square to power through initial tackles and consistently competes for extra yards. Tough to arm tackle when he reaches the second level and flashes a strong stiff-arm. Displays adequate hands and receiving skills out of the backfield. While he shows the lateral quickness to bounce it east-west, he lacks the acceleration to turn the corner and gears down when cutting back inside. He is a power-back with good straight-line speed and some quickness, but tends to try and dance laterally at times instead of blowing it up hard inside utilizing his good north-south speed and running strength. Long-strider who rarely gets caught from behind, but he does lack good top-end speed and is more of a one-gear back. Runs with good shoulder lean but not consistently and needs to watch his leverage as he gets tired. With that said, Hyde is very athletic for his size, and can offer you a bit more than just a straight-line power runner. Could continue to physically develop and slide down to fullback. Great running back prospect in the right offensive system that will utilize him to carry the load and wear out a defense by the fourth quarter.

ESPN 150 Watch List prospect Carlos Hyde told affiliate Web site InsideTheU.com, "Really I want to go up to Ohio State and I think after I go up there this summer I will commit there. I like that they run the ball a lot and they like big backs up there."
Hyde's top five still include Florida, Florida State, Clemson and West Virginia.

By Craig Handel • chandel@news-press.com • June 24, 2008
When Naples' Carlos Hyde made an unofficial visit to Ohio State this weekend, he had pretty good company escorting him around campus.
Buckeyes incoming quarterback Terrelle Pryor, who postponed his signing in February before committing to Ohio State, was Hyde's host. He must have made a good impression because Hyde verbally offered to play for the Buckeyes.
"(Carlos) really hit it off with him," Kramer said. "They talked about winning a national championship at Ohio State.
