Film from Scouting Ohio
My take: Long frame...reminds me of Curtis Terry. He can hold plenty of good weight in the upper and lower body. Solid change of direction and lateral movement...sinks hips and explodes out of change. He is raw which hands and attacking blocks, but the motor is impressive.

By Steve Patterson
Defensive End prospect Jonathan Newsome from Cleveland Glenville High School is one of the best defensive end/linebacker prospects in the country. He explained to us the importance of the game to him and how he excels at it. “My best attributes as a football player is the passion I bring to the game. When I'm on the field I’m in a whole different zone. Its way more then a game to me. I put my heart in every play.”
In addition to love for the game Newsome is a physically impressive player. He runs well in the 4.7 forty range, possesses great lateral quickness, and is 6’3” 225lbs. As a junior his statistics were impressive. “I ended the year with 72 tackles and 13 sacks. It was a good year, but I can always improve.” He explained to us.

Ohio State football: Fellows, Hall, Newsome and more recruiting - Cleveland Sports News
Quote:
Jonathan Newsome, defensive end, Glenville, 6-foot-3, 230 pounds, ranked as a three-star prospect by Scout.com
Newsome may have come the closest of any other Ohio State prospects to recruiting in the wake of Saturday's spring game. He knows how the seven Ohio players already pledged to the Buckeyes must feel.
"Those guys got the feeling, and I had the feeling, too," Newsome said. "But a lot of them had chances to see other places.
"I'm going to take my official visits right now. I've still got Ohio State way up there, but I want to see everything else and break down what I want to do. And then I'll feel comfortable with making a decision. But I see a lot of the guys in my class are (accepting offers) early and that's something to think about, too. They've got to hold a scholarship if I decide to go there and I think they offered three other defensive ends, so if anyone else commits, that may put some pressure on me to decide."

From the MSu site. Ohio State, Indiana, and Illinois (all offered) are recruiting Newsome the hardest. Ohio State leads, with Indiana second. Talks about his interest in Michigan State.

ESPN - Budmayr proves worth in Columbus - Insider
Quote:
Jonathan Newsome (6-3, 215), Defensive end (Cleveland/Glenville)
It's hard to say Newsome's stock went down because he graded out fairly close to where we had him off our film reviews (76). We were looking forward to getting a good look at the Ohio State offer at defensive end, but unfortunately, he decided to compete with the outside linebackers most of the day and was not really impressive.
While he showed a good motor and a great frame for continued physical development, he struggled moving laterally in space and looked a bit stiff trying to mirror running backs in open-field drills.
If the Ohio native decides to commit to the Buckeyes, we feel it will be strictly as a defensive end, and he will need a lot of work in the OSU weight room to physically develop.
