Ohio State's list of verbal commitments grew to 23 Tuesday afternoon when Jonathan Newsome phoned the Buckeye staff to join the fold. Of those 23, Newsome is the first from Cleveland Glenville, extending the famed pipeline another year. Newsome broke down the decision to BuckeyeSports.com.

Ohio State football: Linebacker makes 23 recruits for '09
Wednesday, June 25, 2008
By Tim May
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
Jonathan Newsome will testify there is nothing like seeing a lot of the rest of the world to make a fellow appreciate home.
That helped explain why Newsome, a 6-foot-3, 230-pound linebacker from Cleveland Glenville, yesterday became the 23rd commitment to Ohio State's fast-filling 2009 recruiting class. He got back a few days earlier from his high school coach Ted Ginn Sr.'s annual bus tour, in which Ginn takes prospects to college summer football camps across the Midwest.
"On that tour I saw a lot of schools, and I didn't think I could really see myself at some of those places," said Newsome, recalling stops that included Toledo, Michigan State, Cincinnati, Indiana, Purdue and Illinois. "I've liked Ohio State the most. My mother liked Ohio State the most.
"I knew that's where I wanted to go, and it didn't really make sense to keep waiting."

Newsome commits to OSU
Wednesday, June 25, 2008
From staff reports
Glenville defensive end Jonathan Newsome orally committed to Ohio State on Tuesday. Now he can become a recruiter and move on to persuading a Tarblooders teammate to join him in Columbus.
Newsome (6-3, 230), an incoming senior recruited as a defensive end and outside linebacker, is ranked among the top-60 defensive ends in the country. His friend and teammate, Marcus Hall, is one of the nation's top five offensive tackles and is considering the Buckeyes.
"I'm not going to put pressure on him because he's my friend. But don't think I'm not going to be there in his ear whispering Ohio State," Newsome said.
Hall is not close to making a decision, Newsome said, adding that he believes Hall will wait until he makes some official campus visits in the fall.
Newsome is the 23rd oral commitment for Ohio State, the sixth in the past four days. Newsome's finalists were OSU, Michigan State and Illinois.
"If football doesn't work out, I want to be a coach, coaching at the college level or high school. Start my own dynasty somewhere," he said.

By Jardy...still hearing a lot from Georgia Tech and isn't ruling out a possible visit. Talks about staying focused on his senior season.

Why? Might as well keep on him and see if he changes his mind...which in this case is highly unlikely to happen...
