ESPNU To Cover Yough At Jeannette Game On Sept. 14 - Sports News Story - WPXI Pittsburgh
Quote:
POSTED: 4:13 pm EDT September 12, 2007
UPDATED: 6:24 pm EDT September 12, 2007
PITTSBURGH -- ESPNU crews will be in Jeannette Friday, Sept. 14 to cover the team's game against Yough. The game will be broadcast live on ESPNU at 8 p.m. as part of the Old Spice High School Showcase.
Jeannette quaterback-defensive back Terrelle Pryor is ranked as the No. 1 high school player in the country by several scouting services. Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, Texas, Florida and West Virginia are some of the schools that have shown interest in Pryor, who is also a basketball star.
Pryor is the most heavily recruited basketball-football player in Southwestern Pennsylvania since Tom Clements, a 1971 Canevin graduate. Clements attended Notre Dame after high school and played quarterback for the Fighting Irish.
Pryor is rated higher in football than basketball. Some basketball scouting services rank the senior guard-forward among the top 50 players in the country.

JEANNETTE, Pa. — In keeping with his regal stature in this southwestern Pennsylvania community, Terrelle Pryor has a tattoo of a crown on his upper, left arm.
"They call me 'King' around here. I just took it as a nickname, King Pryor," says the 18-year-old senior quarterback at Jeannette High School.
This season, Pryor has more than the bright lights of Jeannette's hillside stadium shining on him. At 6-5 1/2, 225 pounds, with big-time speed and a big-time arm, he is in the national spotlight.
Rivals.com, college recruiting website, ranks him the No. 1 high school football senior. ESPNU will televise Friday night's game between Jeannette (2-0) and Yough (1-1). It is Class AA ball in a state where the big schools play 4-A, but Pryor is prime-time.
"Pryor is up there with Vince Young … as far as being that fast and that big with the ability to just dominate a game by themselves," says Mike Farrell, national recruiting analyst for Rivals.com.

Full weekend: Jeannette, Pa. quarterback Terrelle Pryor helped his team to a 52-12 win over Washington this weekend. The nation's No. 1 player completed 7 of 9 passes for 147 yards and two touchdowns while running for 60 yards and two scores as well. Pryor also had a sack on defense and returned a punt 54 yards. He also had a 40-yard touchdown run called back because of a penalty.
The next day, Pryor took an unofficial visit to Penn State and also announced his interest in possibly taking an official visit to Texas. Pryor was contacted recently by Texas offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Greg Davis and liked what he heard about how he'd fit in the offense.

Jeannette star under recruiting blitz- PennLive.com

Of The Patriot-News
So, is it good or bad to be Terrelle Pryor these days?
We would ask Terrelle himself, but that phone of his, well, it's always full. Full of text messages from friends. Calls from recruiters. Calls from recruiting services and homer Web sites. Calls from media. Calls, calls, calls.
So many calls they have to be filtered through his high school head coach, Ray Reitz of Class AA No. 1 Jeannette.
Pryor, Jeannette's quarterback, is this year's LeSean McCoy, another recruiting pin-up.
Pryor is the consensus No. 1 senior recruit in the nation, if you believe the recruiting yip-yap, which is a very dangerous thing. (Note: McCoy, the former Bishop McDevitt player, was not considered the nation's No. 1 recruit in 2005, although some services had him listed as the nation's top running back, often paired with current Ohio State RB Chris Wells.)

Terrelle Pryor chops his list down to seven
Elite athlete prospect Terrelle Pryor's high school coach, Ray Reitz, told ESPN's Tom Luginbill that his star senior is now only considering Florida, Ohio State, Penn State, Tennessee, Texas, and West Virginia. Additionally, Pittsburgh, which had been previously eliminated from contention, is back in the mix.
Alabama, Georgia Tech, Michigan, Michigan State, and Notre Dame made Pryor's final 11 but are no longer in the running.

Pryor has not mentioned Pitt in the last several updates that mentioned cutting his list to 7 but now his coach says they are back in the mix...we'll see how this plays out.

Jeannette's Pryor prioritizes college choices - Pittsburgh Tribune-Review
Quote:
By Paul Schofield
TRIBUNE-REVIEW
Wednesday, September 26, 2007
Jeannette quarterback Terrelle Pryor has prioritized the six schools remaining on his list of college choices, but he said Tuesday that could change before he finally commits next February.
Pryor said he's only considering Ohio State, West Virginia, Florida, Penn State, Tennessee and Texas -- in that order.
What does it mean?
Maybe nothing.
"There is still a lot more recruiting to go," Pryor said. "I'm still doing my research and getting to know the coach and getting a feel for the programs."

Recruiting Diary: College choices narrowed to six to avoid craziness
Quote:
Jeannette High School quarterback/defensive back Terrelle Pryor is ranked the No. 1 player in the country by several scouting services and is being recruited by colleges nationwide. Throughout the season and until he makes a college decision, the Post-Gazette will periodically run a diary from Pryor, as told to sports writer Mike White.
I narrowed down my list of colleges to six last week because if I didn't, it would've driven me crazy having to deal with all the teams.
The six teams are Ohio State, West Virginia, Florida, Penn State, Tennessee and Texas. It's exciting to think I'm going to be dressed in one of those teams' uniforms next year.
I will narrow it down to three at some point in the future. I know there was a report on the Internet where I said the top three were probably Ohio State, West Virginia and Florida. I shouldn't have said that because it's really not accurate. I'm still thinking about all of them.
There was also a report on espn.com last week that said I'm now considering Pitt again. That's not true at all. I like Pitt, and like I said before, I think their coaches are all great guys. I'm not just saying that so they read this, either. I think highly of them. But Pitt is just not the place for me.

Video of the Week: Terrelle Pryor
By: Jon Mahoney 10/2/07
Jeannette (Jeannette, Pa.) senior quarterback Terrelle Pryor is rated the nation's No. 1 football recruit in the Class of 2008 by RISE. Blessed with a tremendous combination of size, speed, athleticism, Pryor has drawn comparisons to NFL superstar signal caller Vince Young for his unique ability to completely take over a game by himself.
As a junior, Pryor passed for 1,720 yards, ran for 1,709 yards and accounted for 44 total touchdowns as Jeannette won the Class AA WPIAL title and finished as state runner-up. This year, Pryor has guided the Jayhawks to a 5-0 start by passing for 533 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions while rushing for 383 yards and 10 touchdowns on just 21 carries.
Here’s video of Pryor from last year's Class AA state final against Wilson (Easton, Pa.):

Jeannette sports standout Pryor charged with disorderly conduct
Quote:
Wednesday, October 03, 2007
By Colin Dunlap, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
Jeannette High School senior Terrelle Pryor, considered by many the top all-around high school athlete in the country, was charged with disorderly conduct after an incident Saturday at Kennywood Park.
Pryor, 18, was with friends at Kennywood for Phantom Fright Nights when he became involved in a verbal confrontation with another man, who he said inappropriately touched a female friend. West Mifflin Police Chief Joseph Popovich said the confrontation never became physical but confirmed it involved a female friend of Pryor's.
Kennywood police asked Pryor to leave the park, which he agreed to do, but he also demanded a refund. When police refused, Pryor called the Kennywood policeman a "rent-a-cop."
"I called him a 'rent-a-cop' but only after he swore at me and said, 'You are not getting anything back,' " Pryor said.
"He was asked to leave, and he refused to leave," Popovich said. "He was giving security a hard time with his language. He was just being mouthy."
Pryor said: "I wasn't being mouthy, I just said, again, that I wanted my money back because I was just there for five minutes."
West Mifflin police officer James Pawling escorted Pryor out of the park. "Once our police department arrived, he was cooperative," Popovich said.
Pryor was told he would receive a citation for disorderly conduct in the mail and was released. A hearing in front of District Judge Richard D. Olasz Jr. has yet to be scheduled.
Jeannette football coach Ray Reitz said: "The Jeannette School District, the football staff and, most of all, Terrelle, does not condone what happened and wishes that Terrelle would have handled things differently. In the end, though, we must all remember that this is an 18-year-old kid who made a mistake, but because of how high profile he is, it is a big deal. If you check the police blotter all over the country, a whole lot of young adults do these sort of things, but because he is Terrelle Pryor, it is a much bigger deal. We are confident that he'll learn from this mistake."
Reitz also said he would wait for the legal system to run its course before deciding if Pryor would face team sanctions.
"I just want to apologize to everybody," Pryor said. "Maybe I could have handled it differently, but in a way, maybe I should get some acknowledgement for sticking up for a girl who wasn't being treated the right way."

Pryor made little more than a cameo appearance as the Jayhawks hammered Waynesburg, 54-0, in a Class AA Interstate Conference game on the road. But it was a productive cameo, as he scored touchdowns on all three of his carries, totaling 16 yards. Pryor also completed 1 of his 4 passes for 25 yards, no touchdowns, no interceptions.
