By Bill Greene at the Ohio State site. More on Mewhort's verbal to the Buckeyes. Jack says it was his dream to play for the Buckeyes and that no matter who offered it wouldn't change anything, so he decided to go ahead and verbal. Ohio State is reruiting him to play at Center or Guard.

ESPN - Team-oriented Mewhort has the perfect center's mentality - Insider
Quote:

Updated: May 9, 2008
Jack Mewhort, 6-foot-6, 285 pounds
ESPN 150 Watch List center
St. John High School (Toledo, Ohio)
Big Jack Mewhort hovers over the football as an offensive center. This tall, intimidating figure rules the territory around the football, and he takes a lot of pride in playing this tough, important position.
Mewhort is extremely humble and knows he must keep getting better to excel at the next level of competition. This first-team all-conference and second team all-state player just doesn't get the job done on the football field.

St. John's lineman up for U.S. Army All-American Bowl
Posted: Friday, May 09, 2008
TOLEDO -- Some of the best athletes in our area are seen every week on the Friday Night Frenzy. One of them may soon be an All-American.
St. John's linemand Jack Mewhort was given official notice by the United States Army that he is among the top seniors in the country being considered for the U.S. Army All-American Bowl to be played in January 2009.
The official word won't come until later this year, but Mewhort still considers himself lucky.

ESPN - Don't sleep on these guys - Football Recruiting
Quote:
It's not often that an offensive lineman is accused of being too tall for his position, but such may be the case with offensive Jack Mewhort (Toledo, Ohio/St. Johns). The No. 122-ranked offensive lineman shows remarkable agility and flexibility for a 6-foot-6 center and his non-traditional measurables may lead to his sleeper status.
Though he doesn't play as low as some shorter linemen, he can manhandle middle guards lined up on him or shaded. His powerful hands and upper body allow him to move defenders off the line of scrimmage with regularity. He is fluid when getting to the second level in order to pick up linebackers and has the coveted mobility to venture downfield to seek out defenders. Mewhort is talented enough to play other positions on the offensive line, but don't count him out at the valuable center spot, despite his height.

ESPN - Mobility a hallmark of top 2009 interior offensive linemen - Football Recruiting
Quote:
|
No. 1-ranked center Jack Mewhort (Toledo, Ohio/St. John's) is the tallest of the top ten interior linemen, and his huge wingspan makes him an efficient pass protector. Despite being 6-6, the future Buckeye is a solid run blocker with strong hands.
