Trojans knocking on Fellows' door? - Yahoo! Sports

There is always a friendly debate as to who the top player in Ohio is, and this year there are plenty of candidates.
But one player that doesn't get mentioned as much as he probably should is four-star defensive end Melvin Fellows.
The 6-foot-5, 245-pounder from Garfield Heights, Ohio, is already ranked as one of the top 250 players in the nation, but his stock continues to shoot up this spring. He's already made a commitment to Illinois, but that hasn't stopped other programs from knocking on his door.

By The Bank...more of the usual...committed to Illinois but is looking at OSU and USC and talks about what he likes about OSU and how he likes that Illinois is not pressuring him to not take visits. Says his five officials could be to USC, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Illinois.

No such thing as a gentlemen's agreement
Individual circumstances outweigh unwritten code in applying recruiting etiquette in Big Ten
Thursday, April 17, 2008 By Ken Gordon
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
Last December, Melvin Fellows orally committed to play football for Illinois, declared his decision final and said, "This is the end of the process for me."
According to a vague, unwritten Big Ten code of conduct, at that point Fellows was off limits to other league coaches. That's how it is supposed to work, at least -- once a kid commits, back off.
Far from backing off, though, Ohio State came after him hard. Just weeks after his Illinois commitment, the Buckeyes offered Fellows a scholarship. And on Saturday, the big defensive end from Garfield Heights will stand on the Ohio Stadium sidelines, watching the Buckeyes' spring game instead of the Illini's game, as he had originally planned.
The high school junior once was rock-solid in the Illini camp, but he now says, "I'm pretty up on Ohio State. I like Ohio State."
This appears to be a classic case of recruit-poaching, and a contradiction to the stated philosophy of Buckeyes coach Jim Tressel. In reality, though, it's more complex, both in the Fellows case and in the recruiting business as a whole.

Ohio State football: Fellows, Hall, Newsome and more recruiting - Cleveland Sports News
Quote:
Melvin Fellows, defensive end, Garfield Heights, 6-foot-5, 245 pounds, ranked as No. 82 prospect by Scout.com and No. 29 by the just updated ratings at Rivals.com.
Fellows is the type of kid who appears to be enjoying the recruiting process and the idea of being wanted. Who wouldn't?
"It's not tough at all," he said. "I take it all in stride, that everyone would love to have at least one scholarship offer. I take it like I'm blessed."
When Notre Dame joined the list of schools offering Fellows a scholarship in February, he made sure that word got out. That's what helps throw into question his oral commitment delivered to Illinois in December, though he takes some offense at any perception that he made a rash decision.
"Everyone asks, 'Did you commit because they were the first school that offered you?'" Fellows said. "They don't understand that I was offered after my sophomore year. So I thought long and hard about that."
And he's continuing to think. His visit to Ohio State's spring game on Saturday went well, but he's hanging with the Illini for now.

One of the most sought-after prospects in the state of Ohio, Melvin Fellows surprised many people when he issued a verbal commitment to Illinois back in December. But following a trip to Columbus for Ohio State's spring game, Bill Greene has word that the defensive end prospect has changed his mind and will play his college ball for the Buckeyes.

"I can only speak for myself, but I love coach Rod," Mealer explained. "I think he's awesome the way he's handled everything since the day I met him. He's very dedicated. No matter what, he has a winning attitude and the coaching staff reflects that. Like they say, you don't love to win you hate to lose. I have so much faith in coach Rodriguez and the staff, I'd go to war for him."

By Bill "The Bank" Greene...Fellows reaffirms his commitment to Ohio State and is emphatic that there is zero chance he signs with anyone else. He was recently at the Glenville scrimmage to take a look at Newsome and Hall.
