Son of a gun - Stanford woos prep junior Nick Montana
Quote:
Nick Montana, the son of Hall of Famer Joe Montana, is battling for the starting quarterback job at Oaks Christian High in Westlake Village (Los Angeles County). But he's already got a scholarship offer - from Stanford.
Cardinal coach Jim Harbaugh has extended a verbal offer to Nick Montana, who still has two years of high school football to play, according to an athletic department source, confirming a report out of Los Angeles this week.
Montana is a junior who transferred to Oaks Christian from De La Salle-Concord this summer. He was the starting junior varsity quarterback at De La Salle last year, but left for the Southern California private school reportedly to play in a more pass-oriented offense and to be near his quarterback coach, Steve Clarkson.

From the ND site. Nick says that in spite of his dad, he is not a lock to Notre Dame and is looking around. This weekend he will be at Ohio State, who has made it clear that he is their guy for '10. He will focus on academics, and his comfort level at the school when making his choice.

Casey Clausen talks Vols, Montana, Gretzky : Football Recruiting : GoVolsXtra.com

Former University of Tennessee quarterback Casey Clausen shared some insightful thoughts on recruiting during an appearance Thursday on the News Sentinel's radio show, The Sports Page.
Clausen knows recruiting well enough to be an analyst. He and his two brothers were all recruited to play major college football and he's mentoring two quarterback prospects, junior Nick Montana and sophomore Trevor Gretzky, at Oaks Christian Academy.
On new coach Lane Kiffin's recruitment of California quarterbacks: "For a Southern California kid, the key is to get them on campus. If you can get them on campus and show them the facilities and the athletes running around all over the field, it is enticing to a kid.
"I think it is going to happen with the tie he (Kiffin) has in California and the tie (recruiting coordinator Ed) Orgeron has with him at USC is going to be huge."

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
Nick Montana has never been to Ohio State, but from afar the quarterback and second son of Pro Football Hall of Famer Joe Montana likes what he sees. That's why he's flying in for a closer look Monday and Tuesday.
"Coach (Jim) Tressel is an amazing coach; his record speaks for itself," Nick Montana said by phone yesterday from Oaks Christian School in Westlake Village, Calif. "The whole environment at Ohio State -- it is such a tremendous program. I can't think of a bad year they've had for a while now. The football is always great.
"I am very interested in them."
The Buckeyes already have offered the senior-to-be a scholarship to be part of the 2010 recruiting class, as have LSU, South Carolina, Stanford and California, to name a few. Texas, Alabama and Tennessee are said to be leaning toward an offer.

By A Jardy at the Ohio State site. Montana calls his visit to Columbus great, but didn't get to meet Coach Tressel as he was out of town. He says that Ohio State was different from California, but thinks thats what would make it fun. He will spend the next two days at Texas.

College Football Recruiting On the Trail 2010 - ESPN
Quote:
Top 2010 quarterback Nick Montana still "wide open"
ESPNU 150 Watch List signal-caller Nick Montana spoke to affiliate Web site CrimsonConfidential.com about his recruitment.
"I'm still wide open," said Montana, who threw for 2,402 yards and 33 touchdowns as a junior. "I don't want to start narrowing things down until I see all my options. It's tough to say (which schools stand out), I'm still trying to figure it all out."
Montana's impressive offers list won't make narrowing the field any easier. He's visited Ohio State and Texas and is also looking at other schools including Stanford, LSU, Alabama, Florida State and Arizona.
Despite all the options, Montana hopes to make his decision soon, "I'd like to get it done as soon as possible. Whenever I feel I find the perfect fit I won't hesitate to commit. I'd like to for sure by the beginning of summer or spring ball."
