Wayne freshman already has scholarship offers

Wayne freshman already has scholarship offers
Dayton Daily News
Tuesday, April 15, 2008
The scholarship offers are already coming for Braxton Miller, and the Wayne High School quarterback has three prep seasons to go.
In March, Miller visited the University of Cincinnati and attended a basketball game with some of the school's coaches. Then he was invited into head coach Brian Kelly's office.
"He smiled and said, 'I've got something for you,' " Miller said.
Miller said Kelly offered him a UC scholarship, and he has yet to finish his freshman year. Miller entered Wayne's opener against Colerain last season, played an impressive second half by completing 10 of 15 passes for 149 yards and kept the starter's job for the remainder of the year.
At 6-foot-2 and 185 pounds, Miller played basketball for the Warriors, took a three-week break and has resumed his weight lifting and speed training for his sophomore season. Wayne coach Jay Minton has found it difficult to disguise his enthusiasm.
And good news, Ohio State fans. Miller, whose cousin Dee is a former OSU receiver, grew up supporting the Buckeyes.

Wayne's Miller hopes to cast his own mold

HUBER HEIGHTS - Editor's note: This is another in a series of reports from area high school football practices. Coming Thursday: Stebbins.
Most high school quarterbacks would love to hear that they've been compared to Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor. Wayne quarterback Braxton Miller wanted no part of it.
"It's great to say that, but I want to be like me," he said. "I want to be the first big quarterback to come out of Wayne. I want people to compare themselves to me."
Though just a sophomore, Miller has received an offer to play at the University of Cincinnati. He used his strong arm and fleet feet to lead the Warriors offense through the rough Greater Western Ohio Conference Central Division last season.

HUBER HEIGHTS - The hype around him is growing to what could become an unprecedented level for a Dayton-area high school quarterback.
But Braxton Miller doesn't see it or necessarily like it.
"I don't want to get the big head at all," the Wayne High School sophomore said. "I'm just a cool kid that wants to play football."
Offered a scholarship from the University of Cincinnati as a freshman, the grinning, soft-spoken Miller can't recall the names of all the schools that have sent him mail.

DAYTON - Fans may have come to see Braxton Miller's arm and legs Thursday night at Welcome Stadium.
But it was senior kicker Garrett Klink's right foot that was the difference for Wayne against Lakota West.
Klink kicked two field goals in the final 2:22 - the final a 30-yarder with 4.1 seconds left - to lift the Warriors to a 20-17 victory.

Moments earlier, Miller showed off a highlight-worthy play to set up Klink's 32-yarder. Miller evaded a tackler, appeared to scramble, but pulled up short of the line of scrimmage and fired a 48-yard pass down the left sideline to Rodney Camper.
"Braxton has to realize he has to be himself," Minton said of Miller, who fumbled twice (losing one) and nearly got intercepted a couple times. "Don't try to force issues."

Five-star quarterback Braxton Miller of Huber Heights, Ohio, now has a "definite" interest in Kentucky and plans to watch the Wildcats play at least one home game this season.
The 6-1, 175-pound junior, who runs the 40-yard dash in 4.47 seconds, made the trip Sunday to Lexington to attend the Score6 Camp for quarterbacks and receivers on the Kentucky campus conducted by former UK quarterback Ryan Hockman.
"It was definitely worth my time to come. I really enjoyed it," Miller said. "I really didn't get a chance to look at the facilities, but I did look around some and liked what I saw.
"I could certainly see Kentucky in the picture with me. I have not thought about narrowing my list down or anything like that yet, but Kentucky plays in the SEC against great competition. I have not heard all that much about them, but I'm going to look and visit now."
He says Kentucky recruiting coordinator Chuck Smith has been in touch with him, and he would welcome a scholarship offer from the Wildcats.
"I am totally open to anything right now," Miller said. "A lot of people automatically think I will go to Ohio State, but that is not true. I want to take my time and make a good decision."
