First offer for Tucker nose guard | Football recruiting | ajc.com

Quote:
Tucker junior Deion Roberson received a bit of good news earlier today.

“West Virginia called me and offered Deion,” Tucker coach Franklin Stephens said Thursday evening. “He was excited about it because it’s his first major offer.”

If he commit to the Mountaineers, West Virginia coaches plan to play Roberson at nose guard.

“They’re looking for a true nose guard to play in an odd man front,” Stephens said. “And we happen to play the same defense, which is a 3-3.”

Stephens figures more offers are forthcoming for the 6-foot-2, 275-pound Roberson.

“Probably the most exciting thing is it is close to May when college coaches can come back out,” Stephens said. “It would be nice if there is a snowball effect because you want the kids to have every possible option.”

Spring practice is set to begin at Tucker on May 8.

ACC offer for Tucker nose guard | College recruiting | ajc.com

Quote:
Fresh offer his first scholarship offer from West Virginia, Tucker junior nose guard Deion Roberson received word last week that he had received an offer from an ACC program.

“He already had the West Virginia offer, but Maryland called last week and they offered,” Tucker coach Franklin Stephens said on Wednesday. “And South Florida and Memphis are very interested in him too.

“Most everybody who sees him think he’s a big defensive tackle who is very strong at the point of attack. And it’s very hard to find those guys.”

The 6-foot-2, 275-pound Roberson and his Tucker teammates open spring practice on Thursday.

More offers for Tucker duo | College recruiting | ajc.com

Quote:
“And Deion has picked up offers from West Virginia, Maryland, Louisville, Duke N.C. State and East Carolina.”

The 6-foot-3, 265-pound Roberson, whose first offer came from the Mountaineers just over a month ago, capitalized on spring drills at Tucker during the month of May.

“Deion has made strides this year in spring practice,” Stephens said. “I think he’s finally turning it on and showing the signs of the player that he can be.

“I think that caught the attention of some people. I think [the recruiters] got excited about him. When he decides to play, he’s something to see. He can be a special player.”

Tucker DE Roberson eyes UGA | College recruiting | ajc.com

Quote:
Tucker defensive end Deion Roberson, one of the state’s most intriguing prospects, said he is considering attending Georgia’s football camp on Friday.

The 6-foot-3, 265-pounder already has a dozen offers, including N.C. State, Michigan State, Maryland and West Virginia. Roberson said he has not been offered by Georgia, but was told by his high school coaches that the Bulldogs are very interested, pending further evaluation. How does he feel about the situation?

“I’m fine with everything with Georgia,” Roberson said. “I understand it’s all a process, and Georgia wants to see and know more about me.”

Roberson said his next offer may be from Tennessee, where he said he plans to take an unofficial visit on Saturday: “Tennessee has really been coming on strong. I feel like when they see me in person, there’s a good chance they may offer.”

Would Roberson commit if Tennessee offered? “Well, it would make me feel great if they offered. But I’m not ready to make any college decisions just yet. I need time to sit down with my family and take close looks at all the schools. When I make a decision, I want it to be the right decision.”

Roberson is being recruited primarily at defensive end by the colleges, but he said he is also getting looks at defensive tackle and tight end. Roberson has been overshadowed by his teammate, Drayton Calhoun (committed to LSU), but appears to be catching the attention of more colleges as the summer progresses.

Tucker DL Deion Roberson picks five for official visits | College recruiting | ajc.com

Quote:
Tucker defensive lineman Deion Roberson said he will make official visits to the following five schools: Tennessee, Florida State, Michigan State, West Virginia and Maryland.

The 6-foot-3, 270-pound Roberson does not have scholarship offers from Tennessee and Florida State, but he said both of those schools have told him that he is a scholarship candidate and that he most likely will get an offer. Roberson said he had not set up dates for his visits, but will schedule next month.

Fairly blatant typo here...

Tucker DT out with ankle injury | College recruiting | ajc.com

Quote:
It was a fluke collision on the second play of Tucker’s 26-12 victory against Brunswick last week that has star defensive end Deion Robinson on crutches this week, and perhaps for many weeks to come.

Robinson, a 6-foot-3, 258-pound senior, suffered a dislocated left ankle after a teammate was blocked into his lower leg. “All I know is I was about to make the play and it popped out of place.”

Now wearing a splint and using cructhes, Robinson is looking at some extended time out. He says doctors at the hospital told him “8 to 10 weeks,” but he is to see his doctor on Thursday, hopefully with a better prognosis.

Robinson has been offered by Memphis, West Virginia, N.C. State, Louisville, East Carolina, Michigan State, Maryland, Iowa State, Georgia Southern and South Alabama, and says he’s not concerned that the injury will scare schools away.

Memphis called Monday to check up on his condition and assured him “they’re behind me.”

Robinson’s prediction is to return to the playing field “by the seventh or eighth game.”

Welcome to AJC! | ajc.com

Quote:
Tucker linebacker Deion Roberson has a busy week ahead of him on his return to school after the holiday break.

Recruiters from four schools - Wake Forest, West Virginia, North Carolina State and Louisville - will be in town for some face-to-face visits, he said. Wake, which “came out of nowhere” to make an offer before the holidays, is scheduled to visit with the family at Roberson’s home Monday evening.

Then, the 6-foot-3, 258-pound linebacker will make an official visit to North Carolina State this weekend. He has an official visit to West Virginia the following weekend; Roberson had to cancel a previous visit to Morgantown.

He admits he’s a little nervous about the week, with about a month to go before national signing day, but he plans to “be myself and let everything flow.”

He says he’ll take two more official visits, perhaps to Wake Forest and maybe Michigan State or Maryland, before signing day. He says he probably won’t decide which school until then. “I gotta make sure it’s the right one,” he said, adding that “everyone is still in play.”

Roberson has already taken an official visit to Louisville, which he did just before Christmas. Roberson also has been offered by Memphis, East Carolina, Iowa State, Georgia Southern and South Alabama. Georgia recruiting coordinator Rodney Garner has kept in contact with Roberson but not offered a scholarship.

Roberson had a season-ending ankle injury in Tucker’s opening game.
