College/High School Recruiting News
Quote:
Plano running back Rex Burkhead, the top-ranked athlete in the current SportsDay Area Top 50, picked up scholarship offers from LSU and Kansas. His Plano teammate, wide receiver Kris Lott, was also offered by Kansas.
Burkhead (5-11, 196) also has offers from California, Minnesota, Texas Tech and North Texas. He is scheduled to attend Texas’ Junior Day on Feb. 23. Burkhead was originally invited to UT’s Feb. 10 Junior Day, but asked him to come on the 23rd, a move that could backfire on the Longhorns.

Add Nebraska to the list of schools that have offered Plano running back Rex Burkhead, who closes in on 20 offers. Some of the other schools that have offered Burkhead are LSU, Alabama, Auburn, Kentucky, Ole Miss, Texas Tech, TCU, Louisville, Minnesota, Cal, Stanford, Arizona, North Texas, Tulsa, Wisconsin and Kansas. ... Adamson safety Roderick Goodlow (6-2, 200) picked up his first two offers from Northwestern and Kansas. That list should grow when he competes at the upcoming Nike combine in Fort Worth.

Rex has more than 25 offers. Some schools include Auburn, Alabama, Texas Tech, Nebraska, Michigan, LSU, Virginia and others.
“I already visited Nebraska (spring game) it was a great time.” said Burkhead, “More than 80,000 fans. It was cool.”
“I met Coach (Bo) Pelini, he seemed like a great guy. He wants me to stop by this summer, I don’t know if I will or not. I want to visit some other schools that offered me. We haven’t decided which ones.”
“Nebraska coaches said they like how I play. I can catch the ball, and I’m a good runner. I talked to Coach Beck and they still want me.”
“I’m originally from Kentucky.” he said, “I think I will visit them the first week of summer. Basically my whole family still lives in Kentucky. Kentucky coaches had just started recruiting me. The coaches came by my high school two weeks ago.”
“I definitely have interest in Alabama.” said Burkhead, “I went to their summer camp last year. It was really nice.”
“I went to Texas Tech Junior Days I liked it up there.” he said, “I like how everything is put together. The stadium, practice field and weight room is all in one area. I talk to the Texas Tech coaches once a week.”
“I don’t have a top five right now. I will take all five visits before I decide.”

I met today with Plano RB Rex Burkhead and his coach Jaydon McCullough for the fifth installment of the Summer Visit series. Like always, the video will be posted this friday on hsgametime.com/dfw.
Burkhead (5-11, 200) just returned from the FSN Southwest 7-on-7 state tournament where his Plano Wildcats lost in the quarterfinals to Colleyville Heritage.
This summer he said he has been working out a lot and plans to start up on his college visits very soon. He doesn't have a top-five right now, but some of the schools that he listed were Nebraska, Stanford, Louisville, Texas Tech and Cal. He said that he is going to take a trip out to California to visit Cal and Stanford in the next few weeks and hopes to start narrowing down the schools soon.
At the moment, Burkhead doesn't have a time-frame for when he would like to committ by.
Throughout the interview, McCullough stressed the humility and maturity that Burkhead has shown throughout the entire recruiting process.

Athlete Rex Burkhead high on the Tigers
Rex Burkhead spoke with ESPN affiliate Web site AuburnUndercover.com about his recent trip to campus.
"We took a campus tour and met all the coaches. It's been good. I kind of grew up a Cadillac Williams and Ronnie Brown fan. I started talking to Coach (Greg) Knox last year, and it grew from there."
He added, "I'd say they are up there. I definitely have interest in them. I love the new offensive system."
Auburn will be competing with Stanford, California, Nebraska, Texas A&M and Texas Tech for Burkhead's signature.
