RB Trabis Ward (5-9 203) of Fort Lauderdale, FL has excellent speed, but doesn't run from contact. "People think I'm so big I can't move, but i can run you over, run past you or shake you," Ward said. "I don't get run down." Last season Ward rushed for 1706 yards and 21 touchdowns. He has an offer from Troy while USC, Miam, Ohio State, LSU and Rutgers are major programs showing interest. "South Carolina is one of my favorites," said Ward who last heard from recruiter Robert Gillespie about a month ago. He is not attending any camps this summer.

BY M Bakas. Ward has a top 4 of Ohio State (no offer), Miami (no offer), South Carolina (offer) and UCF (offer). UCF and South Carolina lead because they have offered and he will announce at the Army AA game.

ESPN - Sunshine State stocked with backs in the '09 class - Football Recruiting

Trabis Ward (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Dillard): This kid is finally getting some respect -- but it took until mid-summer for major offers to roll in. He has the coveted ability to wear down a defense with in-line strength or elude defenders with great burst and quickness in space.

ESPN - Murray, deep RB class highlight Sunshine State's 2009 offensive prospects - Football Recruiting
Quote:
Under the Radar Recruit
Trabis Ward, Running back
Dillard High School (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.)
Considering: South Carolina, LSU, Ohio State, Florida State, Louisville
In a year with such deep running back talent in Florida, there are a handful of sleeper backs hidden in the vast talent.
Trabis Ward (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Dillard) had no offers when we first evaluated him last spring, which was certainly a head scratcher. While he is finally getting some respect, it took until mid-summer, and we feel he lacks the national status he deserves.
Ward is an explosive back and a threat to break off a long run every time he touches the ball. With his sturdy, compact body structure, he has the coveted ability to wear down a defense with in-line strength or elude defenders with great quickness in space.
He is not a burner in the second level but is fast enough to break off some long runs at the major college level while consistently moving the chains between the tackles with his good burst and suddenness.

USC Still Favorite Of Florida Back
By Phil Kornblut
RB Trabis Ward (5-9 203) of Fort Lauderdale, FL still considers USC as his favorite though the Gamecocks have not offered. "I talked to coach (Robert) Gillespie last week and I plan to visit them after the season," Ward said. "He's been talking to me about an offer. But I've not been focusing on recruiting. I'll wait until after the season." Ward said he has offers from Kansas, Troy and Toledo. This season he's rushed for 1003 yards and 11 touchdowns.

By M Bakas. South Carolina leads for Ward, who needs a passing test score before he can verbal. He is focused on the Gamecocks only right now.

By M Bakas. Ward will visit Minnesota this weekend, and loves the fact that they are a running school. He says that if he doesn't verbal to the Gophers he may wait until after signing day so he can check out South Carolina, Oklahoma State and Toledo.

We could really use this kid, looks like a tough runner, not fast by any means, but we lacked toughness with the run last year and this kid could help out.

Looks like Ward is still waiting on some test scores to qualify. His friend and gopher signee Vic Keise said he was at a signing day with him wearing a gopher hat and Vic thought he had signed. I guess we'll wait and see how this plays out, would be a great addition to the class.

Ward awaits SAT, may join Big Ten's huge county haul -- South Florida Sun-Sentinel.com
Quote:
While a number of recruits signed their letters-of-intent on Wednesday, Dillard running back Trabis Ward did not.
Ward, ranked No. 8 in the Broward County Top 25, rushed for 1,363 yards and 11 touchdowns this year, but remains without a school as he waits for his SAT score.
He took the SAT for the first time Jan. 24 and is expected to receive his score Feb. 12.
After he gets his scores, he has a school in mind that he is looking to sign with.
"I am probably going to sign with Minnesota next week," Ward said. "I've been talking with [assistant coach George] McDonald every day and they are going to give me a good chance to play. He's high on me and they are waiting on me."
Ward said that he had a chance to sign with Minnesota on Wednesday and McDonald said that if anything came up, then he could go to a prep school. But Ward wanted to make sure everything was OK before he signed.
If Ward has to go the prep-school route, it would be a disappointment.
"It would be very disappointing, but I know I won't have to do it," Ward said. "I just took the test late, that's all."
Ward says he is 5 feet 10 and weighs 203 pounds.
"I want to pick up 10 more pounds and once I get close to 213, I'll be ready to ride," Ward.
South Carolina was high on Ward's list, but once running backs coach Robert Gillespie left for Oklahoma State, Ward was no longer interested in the Gamecocks.
