Bums me out
that this kid wasn't in play for that long. He'd be a perfect NG in the OSU defense. I know when OSU completed their evaluation of him and contacted him, he was already down to PSU and Mich. Oh well.

Im really happy that Martin decided to go Blue now considering we lost some of our better defensive line recruits to Notre Dame this year.

ND fans love to rant and rave that they got Omar Hunter and try to rub it in UM fans faces, but I think I like Mike Martin better.
Martin is 2" taller (6'2" vs. 6'0"), he's leaner (278 vs. 300+), he's stronger, and he's got a better build. Martin just turned 16, and he's already benching over 400 pounds. He's also a state heavyweight wrestling champ.
Very reminiscent of Terrance Taylor, only taller and leaner.

Martin....
This has been debated...over and over but a good sign of who a school likes better is the order of the offers. Omar was offered much earlier so my guess is the Mich staff liked him better than Mike.
That said, I think Martin is a great pick up for Mich and I hope that he works out fine.

Omar didn't have an offer that much longer before Martin did.
In fact, the main reason why they didn't offer Martin is because they hadn't seen his tape. Hunter made it a point to get his tapes to Michigan and to let them knew through the media that they were his childhood favorite and dream school.
Bottom line is that we will not know just how good either one of them are until they step on the field. With Michigan's recent trend of quality DT's (Watson, Branch, Taylor), I'll take Martin over Hunter and be fine with it.

Martin
The reason Martin has offered later was because UM had not viewed his film and the kid was not at early combines because he was wrestling. No disrespect to Hunter, but would not personally trade him for Martin. Martin just plays a nasty physical game beter suited for interior D line.

Do you really think film was the reason?
I find it hard to believe that the coaches couldn't drive 30+- miles to Mike's school to either view him in person or get his tapes.

Martin
The minute Martin showed up at Penn State Combines the offers rolled in. Can tell you from experience that kids from schools that do not have history of producing large numbers of players can easily fly under the radar. I have always loved Wrestlers for D line play. This kid has great strength and uses his hands extremely well. I said it before Hunter committed to ND that i prefered Martin. And still do.

OSwho, boulder, please be nice. There's no need to blast any school or its recruits in here. It's perfectly natural for each school to prefer its committed players.

Martin looks like a monster. He's got a lean, muscular build for a defensive tackle, very little fat on him. The kid is a bull and should be a wall against the run in college.
Michigan's lone 2009 commit, DT William Cambpell is an even bigger monster at 6'4", 310 pounds. Campbell used to be over 330 last year but he's dropped a lot of weight I've heard. Looked very good playing DE against OLSM last week.
Michigan is going to be set at DT in the future with these two young guys.

PREPS ROUNDUP: CC finds faith in itself, rolls to semis
Quote:
"After we beat St. Mary's, the kids started believing in themselves," Mach said. "They started realizing we can be a pretty good team. And having Mike Martin doesn't hurt."
Martin is CC's lineman who is a dominating force on defense. With CC leading, 14-7, it was his third-down play in the fourth quarter that was the biggest defensive play of the game.
"It was third-and-one, and they were marching down the field," Mach said. "Mike made a move on a guy that was unbelievable and drilled a guy a couple of yards deep and made them punt."
