With his athletism, I would LOVE it if he were to come in as a DE. We have a short quantity of stellar pass rushing DE's in the last two classes. I know we brought in Van Bergen last year, but he seems more like the Strong side, all around DE. Segase (listed as a DE by scout) is a DT and Ferrara (from '06) will likely be a DT as well. Even if we get Middleton and Perry, there would still be room on the roster for a pass rushing DE and it seems that putting pressure on the QB from the front four is pretty important in English's scheme.
Could that be where the depth chart is coming into play?

Usually when he has talked about UM's favorable depth chart he has been talking about TE...

Nope, Koger has made it clear that he's a tight end and will play that whereever he goes.
Michigan uses the TE more than OSU, so I expect that's why he considers us to have the favorable depth chart.

I wouldn't exactly say that U-M uses the TE more than OSU. I think it's about the same to be honest. It's not like U-M has ever been a TE heavy offense. Maybe one or two seasons in the past 10 where the talent at WR was kind of down.
As of late, U-M's offense has been this, throw the ball to one guy mainly (Edwards for 3 seasons/Avant for 1/now Manningham) and run it down opposing teams throat with one guy (Perry/Hart). I think they are going to be changing their approach though with all the talent they've started to accumulate at the skill positions.
If U-M coaches are telling Koger that Webb will play WR, I hope that is true. I've always thought Webb looked alot like Mike Williams. Not the fastest guy, but he's very big, very physical, and he can jump out of the gym. I've always wanted to see a 6'5", 225-230 pound WR with hops at Michigan.

GBW - Scout - 07/15/07
Very brief discussion of Kevin's recent visit to Michigan. Kevin has not yet decided, and has no timetable for a decision.

I don't think that's true. Jerame Tuman, Bennie Joppru, Jay Reimersma, and Aaron Shea have all been major components of the offense in recent years. And with the move towards the zone running game, we're moving away from a fullback and using a lot of two TE sets. The last couple years injuries to Ecker and Massaquoi held production down at that position.
Not that it matters, really. Sounds like OSU is the favorite despite any depth chart advantage.

UM definitely uses TEs differently than OSU. TE is primary more in UM offense then OSUs. In all nakeds and many boots TE is the primary receiver in UMs offense. can also be priamry in some down field passing game. OSU uses TE more as check down and hot than primary.

I think this might mean that Webb stays at WR, or that if he does play TE this year it'll only be in passing situations and because of a lack of depth at the position.
I've always kind of wished that Webb would stay at receiver, think he looked alot like Mike Williams in high school. He's not incredibly fast (probably a 4.6 kid) but he's a real big kid (6'5", 220+) with big soft hands, great body control, and he can jump out of the gym. Michigan has never had a receiver that big. Would be fun to see them have Mallett chuck it up there and have Webb come down with it.
Moore and Koger is one hell of a TE class though!

"We want to get (Ohio State coach) John Cooper fired. That's what I want to do. I want to keep on beating that team until he's no longer there."
-- Walter Smith
My advice to Walter is be careful what you wish for! They certainly got Cooper fired by continuing to beat him, but Cooper's replacement is 5-1 against Michigan.
